All my quibbles are things you should, and could, have picked up, with one more read-through before posting. It's a good stroker story--don't kill it with hasty mistakes. You're a much better writer than that.
of "piling on" after the whistle. I'd only remind you of the old medical school wheeze: "If your carotid artery is cut, you will bleed to death in three minutes. A surgeon can sew up your carotid artery in two-and-a-half minutes--if she isn't in a hurry." You're a really good writer, and this series is good. Just don't rush it.
