I have been writing short stories both erotic and non erotic for some years and finally wondered if there was a place to publish my stories.
I found Literotica but didn't do any reading of the rules or get a feel of how to navigate and use Literotica.
My first story was returned with an explanation of why it had been returned and I found out that there were rules I had to comply with.
I read the rules and I found that I agreed with the rule that had triggered the return of my story and realised that my story was irredeemable as far as Literotica was concerned.
I didn't submit for some years thereafter and then tried again after checking that my next story complied with the rules.
It got submitted. I tried again and again and again. Very few stories returned. I thought I knew it all.
However, recently readers have pointed out to me, some politely, some not so politely that I was miscategorising my stories.
When I got a huge number of views on a story I had submitted and even the polite comments had the "wrong category" comment tacked on, I decided to go looking for how categories were defined.
And got a bit of a shock.
You see I have been using Mature stories as a catch-all category. I had assumed that Mature stories were for mature adults, not age for related stories.
So, a good percentage of my stories are lurking in Mature category when they should be elsewhere.
And now, finally a question. Is it worth me going through and asking admin very politely for the stories to be put into the correct categories. Or do I just move on?

And a PS. The readers, Anonymous and registered have taught me a lot about story telling and what works and doesn't work. Its been fun.

You should post this in the Authors' Hangout. You posted in the Audio Creator's Booth, a sub-forum of AH.

That being said, I have changed categories once, and it did not seem to make a significant difference at the time. I think the explanation for that is changing categories does not put the story in the "New" listing, it simply moves it to the category. Readers need to find it in some manner, either by browsing the category, finding you and looking at your Works, or searching for Tags. In my opinion, it is important to get your story in the correct category when it's first published, and use good Tags. In the long run, moving to the correct category will probably benefit. There is a process for it explained in the Help section of the website. Be aware that changes to existing stories are a lower priority for the Admins than getting new stories published. It may take a while.

Thank you for your response. I thought I had deleted this post on the Audio Creators forum when I realised I had posted in the wrong forum.
Your help and advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

Asking the site to re-categorise dozens of stories because you didn't do your category homework is a pretty big ask. As others have said, it will be low priority for the site - you'd have to resubmit each one as an EDIT (read the FAQs), asking for a category change. An edit can take several weeks.

You could prioritise the stories to change (based on the drama of the commentary), make sure you get the destination category right, then submit two or three a week. I wouldn't deluge the site with all the change requests at the same time - something is bound to go wrong and you'll be worse off, for reasons you've not even thought about.

Alternatively, you could put a mea culpa in your Author's Profile, explain that you've been a bit of a doofus, and promise not to do it again.

Or you could add a comment of your own under each offending story, saying, "I know this should be in Category X. I made a mistake, but I don't want to bug the site to make changes."

I think the comment suggestion is the way to go. I will do that. Thank you.
