Changing & Shifting on The Playground

I've been watching lately and it looks and feels like there are lots of changes and shifts going on here on The Playground. Except for the word games, a lot of the threads that seemed to have a lot of posters are coming round less and less...and alot of the faces changing.

I am wondering if this is a typical pattern at Lit...for The Playground? It is on other types of forums but there are many here that have been around for a long time...and The Playground doesn't appear to be the type of place that people should grow bored with or feel trolled too much.

Is this a seasonal pattern? Is it a pattern at all?

Anyone else see this? What are your thoughts?

I know some of the more long-term posters have commented on an increased level of conflict as well...which I've been experiencing to some degree.

Just curious as to what other people think and how this goes at Lit, especially in The Playground, over the long haul.

to me its typical pattern for any msg forum online really....people enjoy for a period of time then grow tired of it and find something in reality to keep their attention until that bores and they come back....I tend to stay around only a little while then come back for awhile then leave.....maybe I found that happy medium or something

Thanks for your response! I know my mood changes this time of year so I was thinking it could just be my perception as my energy level drops off...

I know several people (me included) who take breaks every now and again, sometimes for a few months, sometimes a few years.

I was taking a break when my very good friend BSs dog got sick. I know he is popular around the playground so started a thread about it. I was only going to post on there but...well....kind of didnt work out that way!

Alot of the posters move on to the Gb and become legends in their own mind. The Playground gets alot of people just passing thru and they never return. Some get into trouble under one name so they change and start all over. Me I just stay to piss off people on the GB. :D

Koalabear: Your Avs are getting better and better;)

Sorry about that. Was distracted. I haven't been here long enough to be able to tell you. I have tried several times to have a fun thread of my own but they have flopped so I'm not trying anymore. Maybe I'm not popular enough? I had computer problems for a while so haven't been posting as much. Sort of been lurking but now I'm back for more.

It's actually best not to have yor own thread, it sorta ties you down in one place. Then again some people love being tied down. :D

I work on my AV daily. ;)

I love being tied down! Let me know if you need any help with your "work" ;)

Now back to the original discussion.

I so enjoy comedians! :D

I love my thread when I'm in the right mindset...It gets all madcap in the "olde English" ways at times...and quite thrilling at times as well...

But it's quiet for a time now...Real Life issues cloud the games...I suppose not just my own but how I perceive many things at present.

Thanks for the laughs you two! :D

Comedians!!!! We are perverts damn it!!!!! :D

Lots of us wander off..... guess we get bored or something gets in the way when we come to have fun. I left for nearly a year.... but still found my way back :D

Part of it is also the weather...as it gets colder and folks stay in more Lit will see some of the old ( will get slapped for that :D ) regulars coming back to visit again

Ah..again...makes sense...it is the harvest time...the time of dancing in the lush.

The winter comes as it will...and more seek warmth and closeness. I have not been here through a winter yet. It will be interesting I'm sure!

Who are you calling old? ;)

Just have to step in with my two cents. In the last three years i have seen many come and go. Most of the people that i have first started posting with are gone and i haven't seen them since. But i've also made many new friends. There are definitely times of more posting here than others. Sometimes it happens with the seasons, more in the winter, less in the summer, it also depends on the type of people on the boards. When i first started there weren't any game threads. Everyone had their own little corner and it they just stayed with their group more or less.
And the comment about it being more hostile or mean here is not necessarily true either. I've seen my share of drama here in the last three years also. This new stuff is no different.

So there's my opinion.

Poppy, I've only been here since December so it'll be my first, too. Guess you could say we're winter virgins?

Thank you, Vinde! It seems the drama comes and goes more than the constancy of it on the GB though...is that your experience? I had a wonderful "honeymoon" period here...and as I grow more familiar and forthcoming with my real self...I encounter conflicts. People just want others to live by their ideas at times it seems...no matter where they hearken to...lol.

Let's be friends and hold hands (as we can when not busy elsewhere) through it...lol.

Most definitely. There are times when there is no confict, at least not on the boards, but at others that's all there is. I kind it find it similar to roommates. For awhile there is a new group of faces here and everyone is busy getting to know the new people and being on their best behavior and then a couple of months in people start to act like themselves again, human. So then there is conflict. Dont' think it's a bad thing, and i don't think it will stop, we just need to ride it out.

See... knew I'd get slapped for that :p

Vinde's one who was here when I first joined :D

hey Poppy :)

I wonder how much of it has to do with the inability of people to get into threads?

There is some risk into entering into threads that have hundreds of replies and people who already known one another. It is almost like entering someones home without permission :)

I don't post a whole lot beyond a few threads I frequent so I may not be the best judge for why people stay or leave, but I just wonder if people find it too hard to really get into the groove, as it were, and simply decide to move on.

I've enjoyed a full year on lit and am starting a second. Twice I almost left. . .but I decided I am me and I won't change for anyone, there are conflicts on every forum. People come and go, life changes and so does Lit. Seasons effect it, but also just plain living effects the boards. I'm glad to be here and enjoy my time even if I have to deal with folks that don't like me. :rose:  :D

ok i'm going to respond to this too if i may.
It was the same way when i joined also. There were so many threads that 100's of pages of posts and all the people seemed to know each other and seemed to be friendly with each other and i felt truely intimidated to jump in. The first post i made was in one of those threads and i met some very special people as a result.
For a long time though i stuck on the game threads (alphabet mostly), but you meet people on there sometimes that post on other threads and then you kinda follow them around. Gives you an in so to speak.

Oh, I agree :)

I'm aloof by nature. Staying outside and observing is far more appealing than interaction ;)

I was just suggesting why others might have such a hard time. :)
