Question: how does one change the user information that is automatically attached to each new file created in Microsoft Office?

I know how to change this infomation in the document summary by calling up File/Properties and then modifying the pertinent items but I'm interested in making a change that would affect all future files created or modified on a given computer.

I recently gave my old computer to my daughter and she doesn't need to have her files show up as having been created by me. I can see this being a potential issue if she is ever suspected of not having done all her own work for a school writing assignment, for example.

So, all you gurus of ones and zeroes, what's the deal?

I believe if you go into Tools, options, user information that you can set the relevant information there.

I suspect that it might well change if a different account is used to log in as well, by default it uses the login to get the initial details.

I can try this again but if you're talking of using the tools menu within the application, say Word, I tried it earlier today it didn't seem to do what I want done. But I could have been clumsy so I will give it another whack.

Thanks for the help.

I think the global change for th whole MS Office suite canbe changed through MS Wallet, but the only sure wayIknow of is to Edit the registry and change it there.

Got to Start -> Run

Enter REGEDIT

Hit Crtl-F and enter the name to change from as the text to search

Each time it stops on a find, it should be a data element that youcan hit just enter to replace with new data.

Repeat until you cn no longer find the orignal user and then exit Regedit.

The next time you reboot your system, the default user data should be changed everywhere it's automatically entered (MS Office and all other programs that store user information in the registry.)

Thanks. I will try this and report back. If I get to report back, you'll know I managed to edit my register and escape with the register intact. ;)

Just don't delete anykeys, or change anydata other than the default name and address and you should be fine.
