Changing category mid-series?

The series I'm currently writing right now actually falls into many categories. Although it starts off as non-consent, some later chapters are a combination of two or more things.
Should I change the category then?
Also, what do I categorize stories with mostly non erotic content as? (It has some, but not much)

Unless you've included something radically different like Gay Male or Incest, I think you should stick to NonCon category. That way you have a dedicated readership, if that's what you want. If you want to take a risk, you can submit it to the relevant categories and attract new readers. It's not guaranteed that the readers will love it, but I've seen stories in the hall of fame which have chapters in group sex, erotic couplings and Incest/Taboo.

Can you give us a little more detail regarding the contents (e.g. whether it includes group sex/Incest/lesbianism or not)?

That'll help me understand your case better.

Ah. It'll probably include everything you just mentioned.
I'm guessing dedicated readers will keep reading, but at least they'll be warned beforehand, so they can choose.
Personally, I think it's easier to just skip ahead a paragraph.
Also, what about the non-erotic thing? If a story is 80% of, say romance, and there just a little scene- then where should it go?

Non-Erotic category is one of the least read category. Unless you have a die hard fan Base, or if your story has an extremely high score and has a shot in the hall of fame, DO NOT post in that category. I advice everybody to steer clear of that category unless it's absolutely unavoidable.

Some authors have done well in that category. I can't say the others were as lucky as them.

Gay Male squicks a lot of people. So, you wanna tread carefully on that landmine. Same with Incest/Taboo, Transgender/Cross dressers or any other extreme fetish (poop, scat, piss).

Anyhow, good luck! And post the links to your story for feedback one you're done.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I have any choice; the story goes where it wants to, guess I'll just have to put my bomb suit on and hope for the best XD
I would be glad if someone could comment on this chapter I wrote: https://www.literotica.com/s/the-sharpest-lives-ch-03
For some reason, this has the lowest views, favorites and rating, and personally I feel it's better than the next chapter (which, to my amazement, was better received). What didn't I do there that I did in the next chapter?

If you have one non-erotic chapter as part of an ongoing series, you should be fine to categorise it according to the general theme of the series. I've done that and there weren't any complaints; I figure anybody who didn't want the plot wouldn't have made it to part 12 anyway.

Being it seems to contain a buffet of kinks-and all the trump squicks- Novels and Novellas could be a possibility, but like non erotic, there is not a large readership there.

Erotic couplings is a catch all category that might be an option considering it has so much varied content and the readership isn't huge, but far better than Non erotic and Novels.

Another thing to consider is whatever you pick, the site could look at it and over rule you and put it where they feel its best.

Make sure you tag all the kinks and try to use a good tag line to warn people of all the extreme content.

Maybe it's a matter of personal taste? I haven't been scientific (just dipped into this chapter) but I liked it... But that's just me .. Maybe others are looking for more directness ? Anyway I'm not helping much lol

Any view is appreciated, lol. I've had people tell me some of my chapters is a mess and my characters make no sense (and I agree with them, it looks like a horror show later on)
I actually considered horror, but it's not the usual horror. It's more like fridge horror, I think.

Yes, I thought about putting a note at the beginning, but this is what I think will happen:
Reader sees *there is extreme context*-ah, how bad can this be?-5 mins later- BWQZTHLHFUKUUU!!

I would like the site to decide, but I don't think there's such a choice (in that drop down menu)
Also, although I love the few readers who favorite and vote and read every chapter (Thank youuu I run on your love <3 I will finish it, just for you guys) I wouldn't like to miss readers that might give it a miss because of the categorization (earlier a poster mentioned they wouldn't like to read it, but I asked them to give it a shot anyways.) I think I have a good story- and things happen in life all the time, that are very real, and very unacceptable- but I don't think reading them means that you accept it. So, any comments on my writing, at least, is appreciated (and for that, I need a large base.)

I myself shy away from the idea of splitting my story up into several different categories. I prefer my stories to keep an overal consistent them and flow. Not to mention I don't want the people reading my stories to have to Easter egg hunt them trying to figure bosh the story. But, that's just me👠👠👠Kant

I try to make my stories have an underlying theme at least.. But the categorization is more for the people who might mind the new things, and to attract people who'd like the new thing and check out the old.

I liked that chapter. The writing was well done. I would have added a bit more to the sadistic part, but that's just me.

But it does not stand alone. I was confused as to why she (he?) was so dehydrated. I am still not sure of the protagonist's sex, probably because of the sexually ambiguous name (Kim) and something in the opening paragraphs that made it seem unusual for the main character to wear hosiery. I suspect that if I'd read the first two chapters all those things would have been clearer.

There appears to be a problem in LIT where people are offended when they find a story that combines elements from several genre. I thought it was hilarious to find some one calling the wife in a "loving wife" story a slut and the description of her lover as being something that belongs in the "gay" section. Another complained that a 7 inch cock was hardly to be considered large. :) You are not going to please them all.

Finally, someone who gets it! Lol.

I actually laughed out loud at that! You're right, it is an ambiguous name, and it's not meant to be a stand alone chapter at all, you'll understand if you read the previous two chapters. The hosiery was sudden though, yeah, I just threw it in.

7 inches is normal? People, do you know exactly how long a vagina is?

Oh you poor things.. Bigger is not always better :p
Plus imagine a 7 inch vagina for a 7 inch cock... Might as well shove your arm in!
Hey how come foot fetish is so popular but not arm fetish? Dem sexy elbows ;)

We write more than hetero here for one, and in GM and bi, bigger tends to be better. And bigger does tend to be more arousing even in hetero, because, I repeat, we aren't dealing with a medical journal in a clinic waiting room when we write erotica. We're dealing with fantasy arousal--mental images, bigger and more arousing than RL situations. If you can't think beyond the clinical and allow yourself to get stuck in the measurements of reality--either for a penis or a vagina--you probably are in the wrong place either reading or writing erotica. You won't find much of a following here--just some other posters to the forum who don't "get" the story file here and keep wondering why what they write isn't more popular.

Lit. pages? Apparently not, as those posting them that long aren't being dissed for doing so.

I did it. Took my series from BDSM to novels and novellas because it was branching out a bit. It actually improved the average ratings for each chapter.

Yeah. That's what, like 15k words?
It's ridiculous for some things, but if that's how long something is, it's no big deal.

I was looking at it myself and it looked slightly ridiculous, since it has about 4 scenes and a lot of story in between.. And all the other chapters are just a page or two long. Thought about dividing it, but it doesn't make sense to.

Eh, just post it as one big thing then. I've occasionally done it.

I'm currently working on what looks like another 7k word chapter for a thing, and that'll go up as one part, when my usual length is right around 3k words.

On a similar vein;

What's the best way to handle a story that includes a variety of kinks when it comes to categorizing. Imagine a story where a couple decides to try an open marriage, which leads to exhibition to attract guys. They end up in a hotel room where he's cucked, then forced to clean off the new boyfriend. This leads to a bi interlude where hubby's tied up and screwed.

My experience so far is that the homophobes will have a fit about the last part. The righteous will denounce the slut. The gay guys will be turned off by all the cocks in pussy action.

Do we just avoid such stories, or is there a suggested category for an "everything goes" kind of story?

Record it and post to Text With Audio. ;-)

I'll let you know once the hate comments roll in after my newest chapter gets published.
I did something every similar to that this time. Oh well.

Edit: Ah, it's done! Wow, that was fast...

So far 1 comment, not turned on (not that expected anyone to be lol) but still interested. 1 point to me?
