Challenge Parameters:

This challenge is to see how well we know the work of our peers. Poems will be submitted to me via PM. There is no time limit per se, but once all poems have been received, I will post them in a new thread. Only I will know who wrote each poem and the challenge will be for everyone to read the poems and determine which of the 11 poets wrote which of the 11 poems.

The poems should reflect you as a poet and not be written with the intent to 'trick' your peers into not guessing which poem you wrote, as this defeats the purpose of the whole authorship aspect of the challenge.

Your poems can be written in whichever form you prefer, or if you're more comfortable, free verse. Each poem should be submitted with a title (wouldn't want Remec to be the only one with a title this time around - lol). You can do whatever you want as a poet, the only stipulation (so that all poets are on the same page and so that the subject itself doesn't give away the poet so easily) is that the poem must revolve around the same subject: the Chelsea Hotel (link in subject line below). You can choose a specific personality who lived there, a physical aspect of the hotel itself, an aspect of life in the hotel, an object that might be found in the hotel, an event (imagined or real), or whatever else you want as long as it has a 'flavour' that reflects life in this specific hotel.

Title: whatever you want, as long as there is one
Form: any form or free verse
Subject: Chelsea Hotel

Participating poets:
Angeline
AnnaSwirls
Champagne1982
Chipbutty
Erotic Orogeny
Lauren Hynde
PandoraGlitters
Remec
The Fool
Tristesse2
Wicked Eve

I'd have included you Chippy, but these poets (and count yourself lucky) are OLD (and this is a way of making them post here again)! Everyone should be familiar with them.

oh 'eck, no offense taken, Charley :D

Well thanks a bunch for calling me OLD (even though I am, but never mind that). I am currently sitting in a hotel room near Roanoke, Virginia and have three more days on the road (two near Princeton to visit my mommy) before I'm back in Maine. And THEN I have three weeks to pack everything up and move down to North Carolina. I tell you all this to say I will try my best to answer the challenge cause I'm honored that you put me on the list. I will definitely try.

(Besides I can't stand the thought that Lauren does it and I don't lol)

ETA: What about UnderYourSpell? She's old too, damnit.

ROFLOL! The challenge won't be time limited, beyond a couple weeks, and it will be easy because form will be your choice. I'm sure I can make this thread interesting until everyone is on-board....

For example: The Ting Tings: Poets, or hot drummer with a babe in a potato sack?

Ok. But why not open it up to everyone? I wanna read Chipbutty's poem. She's good.

I thought about that, but then the field would become too large. The purpose is to investigate the voices and signatures of a select number of poets. Part of this challenge is for all of us to familiarize ourselves with the poets, and the more the poets, the harder that is to do. It's not a one off thing - there can be future challenges. My lovely Angeline ... I have been narrow minded and have since opened the challenge so that others can participate. xo

i don't rate 'em.
and better as text than sung - if that can be called singing. his drumming's lacklustre and uninspiring as far as i'm concerned. they remind me of 1st year art students trying on Andy Warhol for size and looking more like Rolf Harris on medication.

For now, my lovely Angeline ... if you want to read Chippy ... then read Chippy, but Chippy is not part of this challenge, except to add his/her opinion. :)

and the challenge for me is to 'hear' the individual poets' voices! and i'm a her, honest :D

Sure I'm in, especially now that I know there will be lots of time. I do hope we will not have to write forms unless we want--I mean you do want to get our natural voice hehe, not some forced version. :p

I will say though that I understand your purpose and point, but I do think this will be perceived as feeding the clique theory about this place. It bothers me cause I don't want to be in any club that would have me as a member, you know? And it seems so arbitrary; what about Liar or Denis Hale, LadySt or Hmmnmm? There are so many wonderful writers here.

I would suggest that if you don't get the original ten you've requested, you take any volunteers who may wish to write. Just a thought. :)

Count me in.
After you put out the challenge I guess we PM you our entry and you take it from there?

Don't worry so much about the clique theory, Ange. In Chipbutty's premier challenge it was decided that the person who puts up the challenge calls the shots and that there will be something for everyone eventually....to not try to make every single challenge one size fits all.

It is just Charly's one idea, and hopefully no one gets hurt by something so silly. Who am I kidding, I would have sniffled if she did not put me on the list. But most people are much tougher than I am, that is for sure. Sniff sniff.

Besides, there are lots of opportunities to do the "who wrote what" challenge-- I liked doing that by taking previously posted poems and making a poll-- who wrote it :)

Oh and if it is a form poem, I just intend to say frack that and write it in my own scattered manner, so everyone will know it is me anyway.

It is going to be tough with 10!

It's funny you should say this Anna because I had nightmares about it! Seriously! lol This is meant to be fun and it's meant to open our eyes to explore new and old poets alike. I had sent out emails, but didn't provide any information other than this link and so with this in mind, I am changing my original post so that the challenge is open, equal opportunity and clique-free. It was never my intention not to include people, but I still think the challenge should be kept small. More than 10 poets might be a bit overwhelming, but this is my opinion.

We now have 6 poets and need 4 more (only 3 if Chippy would like to join in on the action).
