An idea that just occurred to me was of a series or chain story for authors to write celeb or fanfiction stories about favorite public figures, particularly ones who travel. For me, I have a few ideas myself of which celebs I would choose.

Any thoughts? The common theme should have something to do with being "on tour" in some way. This could be singers, musicians, circus performers, stand-up comics, etc.

I think you've hit a strange combination of too broad and too narrow. On the too borad front I think you have to pick either fan fic or celeb. I know lit never bothered to separate the two but unless you are going really high magic (I mean like Last Action Hero level fuck the rules magic) you can't have Rocky and Stallone in the same verse for obvious reasons.

On the too narrow part not all celebs really do much travel, especially in any truly formal sense. I mean on the one hand anybody can travel for any reason. I might run into Dennis Rodman while I'm . . .aiding my government in North Korea. But actors don't really go on tour. I'm curious why that detail is something your married to. I think you'd be better off having some sort of event that gathers them.

Backstage at the Emmys comes to mind. Virtually anybody you want can show up. You like Ronda Rousey? She's there with Vin Diesel and Statham after Fast 69 and Expendables 4ever. In the mood for Seth McFarlane? He's hosting. Got the hots for Sarah Palin? She's playing herself in a documentary about the 2008 elections.

Well, I wasn't thinking that my characters and those of others would have to interact, but the idea of the backstage event is curiously intriguing, too.

As for the other......well, I wasn't assuming a need to interact, only a shared theme.

Still, for my part, the backstage has possibilities....as for actors, well, some are also singers and vice versa, though only a few have real quality in both arts.

Could even be a fictitious celeb, in fact.

There are no truly strict rules for chain stories so the truth is you can do what you want. Me personally I think the "rules" of the universe need to be consistent. Consistent enough that you're not going to jump off a building to get an interview with Batman and then a story later go behind the scenes with Ben Affleck to see how they make Batman look real. Which really just means you've got two chain stories and God knows there are enough comic heroes that even if nobody doubed up we could keep going until everybody is bored.

The characters don't have to interact either. I think it's better when they do or at least CAN. I assume you've seen Sin City? They don't (in the original, never saw the sequal) interact with each other. But they are around each other, a few of them see Nancy Dance, the corrupt businessman is fucking with more than one of them. So on and so forth. Your character and mine passing in the hallway to establish a single continuity is (to me) really cool. By contrast we have modern fairy tales Chain which. . .is really just a bunch of separate stories put under Chain because a lot of us needed points.

I love this genre in spirit, in execution I'm less than fond but always hoping this next one is the one.

Using the Chain Story category will almost guarantee a minimal number of readers. The only cat with fewer entries is Illustrated. IMHO the CS cat, and poetry, of course, are LIT's purest areas for authors to write for themselves rather than for an audience. Nothing wrong with that; just be aware of the limitations. Why, CS is almost a private archive!
