Yep, afraid to say it... ch*ld abuse has become a "swear word" now. I think this whole entire thing is totally rediculous. I'm talking about this woman beating her child thing. Typical america, gotta get their point accross. Doesn't matter if they ruin the childs life and the mothers life, as long as they get there point accross. Soon you won't even beable to say the worlds "child abuse". That's the way america is going... oh well, I guess all the news broadcasts feel they have done their "Good deed for today" by ruining a chicks life for doing what MILLIONS of other parents do each day... so I guess all those news reporters can go home now and sleep tight knowing they did their good deed for today... while they are sleeping in their million dollars homes, they can rest assured that thousands of other kids arent resting, but they are being beaten, just like that kid was and ruining this womans lfie wont help a damn bit. But it's ok, america made up this word a while ago..... they called it "awareness". rotfl.

Did you see the video? She didn't jsut hit the kid, she BEAT the kid repeatedly, with many of the blows landing on the child's face. I saw it, and there were at least 15-20 smacks and/or punches given to the child.

Just because "millions" of parents do that each day does NOT make it all right to do. Millions of people drive drunk each year- does that make it ok for me to do? NO! I hope she sees the video and is ashamed of her behavior. I know I would be.

It appalls me that you think it is ok what that woman did to her child. You don't think that child's life is going to be ruined if shecontinues to be treated that way? She can get hurt both physically and mentally. You don't know much about human psychology, do you.

I work with kids. I've come across abused children, and let me tell you, they are often either so sensitive that the littlest thing will set them off, or they are indifferent and don't give a shit about anything at all. I've had children flinch away from me when I go to give them a pat on the back, kids who have such low self-esteem that nothing I can say to them helps. This is because of abuse. It affects people very deeply. They feel that they have no worth because their own parent, who is supposed to love them unconditionally- the ONE person whom they should be able to trust, hurts them.

Rething your stance on this, pal. You have a lot of learning to do.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? I saw the video. Infact, I saw it about 9 times, because they kept showing it over and over. It was also the top story (laugh). Like they couldn't find something else better to show? Nevermind, I forgot, other problems don't matter to american news companies... they don't care about other world issues, they only care about their own issues, issues that bring them money. If september 11th had happend over in russia, do you think this big of deal would be made? Do you think that Yahoo and eBay and all those others places would have put up front page memorials? Do you think that it would have been on the front of our newspapers for 3 months in a row. This whole issue goes way beyond whether some chick beat her daughter, i'm arguing the very fundamentals that founded and found america as a country today. Unfortunately, it's too late for the woman and her daughter. America needs to set an example out of her now. America always has to win... so she will go to jail and her daughter will end up in a foster home and have her life ruined. But don't worry, the people who put her mother in jail can rest easy, cause they have manipulated themselves into beleiving they are doing a good deed for their country and actually helping society...

... far from it.

The lady's life is ruined

So what?

Has it served a purpose?

Sure. Awareness.

The more people here about what is happening, the more people are likely to do something about it...i.e. report behavior to the authorities or even children may decide to tell their teachers what is happening at home.

That is the case now as opposed to thirty years ago. There millions more reports of child abuse each year than 30 years ago. Does that mean our parents were nicer? No. It simply means that people recognize the problem adn feel more free to take action. Some feel incited to do so by just this sort of media coverage.

Yes, I feel for the family.

But feel grateful for even one family who is saved by a neighbor calling the authorities and getting assistance before it gets to this point.

If that child was being beaten, then her life was already messed up. If they can locate her and the mother, then they both can get the help they need. I'm not really sure where you are coming from with this. We all scream and rant when we hear of someone being abused, but rarely does anyone intervene on the behalf of the child. That little girl deserves a chance at a normal childhood, one where she feels loved and important to someone. So do I care if it ruins the mothers life? No. I do hope she is able to get rehabilitated at some point, and play a part in her daughters life. I think we have all turned a blind eye to abuse for too long. I disagree with you. And for all the other "millions" of children being abused by someone who claims to love them, God bless their soul.

Child abuse should be a swear word. It is offensive to me. Makes me feel sick.
Millions of parents do not close their fist and strike an innocent child! And if they do? I hope they get caught on video tape and their pics splashed on tv so we all can see who the sick people are.
If the point was, "Look at the video tape of this mother beating her child? Where is she? Is the child safe?" Then bravo for the American tv programs for letting the whole world know this little girl was being abused and trying to help make her safe so that this never happens again.
Ruin the mother's life? I hope the bitch never sleeps again after what she did to her baby daughter and that she has seen the video clip of what she did and that it haunts her forever as she struck her daughter. I'm sure her daughter will never forget.

BTW if you were drunk whilst you posted this thread? It was obvious :"Soon you won't even beable to say the worlds "child abuse". Life is not spelt lfie either.

rotfl, there we go again. Another typical american stereotype. "If I can help just one person, then that's all that matters". BULL SHIT. It's like that story, about that young girl throwing starfishs back into the ocean and she says "It makes a difference to that one". I remember when I was told that and everyone around me was like "awww, that's so nice" I was sitting there realizing that america has been brainwashed. It's the same thing as religion... religion is just something for people who can't cope with reality... who need something make belief to keep them going and help them sleep at night. But I got nothing against religion... if people want to beleive in magical beings, then so be it. If it keeps them "in check" then I, as well as YOUR GOVERNMENT, appreciate it.

Sorry, i'm not superficial like you. I don't need to spell correctly... knowing I can is good enough for me.

Because someone doesn't happen to share your view of life they're *brainwashed*?

Get over yourself. If you think that humans, individually don't matter ... then you are the plague that infects this earth.

You're still asleep, right?

You must be.

You're obviously not thinking clearly.

Or maybe that's just "typical American bullshit."

Idiot magnet? Why? Because my views are different then yours? Oh wait, I forgot, america is slowly filtering out free-speech as well. Figures.

In this medium, if you want to be taken seriously, you need the ability to communicate effectively.

Apparently that applies for well-thought-out arguments, too.:)

Maybe to themselves they are... but you can act all tough, say your prayers, take your vitamins and sleep at night in your cozy bed, knowing to yourself that you've done your good deeds, because you don't know the half of what REALLY goes on in the rest of the world. Your news broadcasters hide the truth from you to keep you "in check" and keep you manipulated.

And this is a well thought out argument?? ^^^^

If you have differing opinions, I encourange you to share them with me. My opinions are different from yours. Just because you are unable to accept the fact that my opinions don't match yours, doesn't mean you need to be afraid...

Oh, I'm all for free speech.. that's why I spoke the way I felt about what you have said. I think the things you are saying are idiotic.. you have the right to say them, I have the right to call you an idiot.

Once again, that's a typical american stereotype. I got my point accross, no? I love it how you silly americans always focus on small problems, like spelling and stuff like that. See, that's the problem, you're always missing the big picture... you always focus on small things that, for the most part, are insignificant to the rest of the world. Now, when you can accept the fact that my spelling might have a few errors in it, and begin acting mature, then perhaps you can actually present a good debate to me. Until then, feel free to flood my thread with your useless posts.

I'm not going to sit here and argue with you. It would be about as much fun and just as effective as talking to my talking vibrator. Oh wait, my vibe would be more fun, because it actually serves a purpose, unlike you.

If you knew me at all you would know I am not a superficial kind of person.
I make typo's too. Your original post was hard to follow and almost nonsensical. It was hard to interpret because of your typo's and scrambled thinking.

If you can help one child you are making a difference. One is better than none. And in this case? It pays to advertise.

I respect opinions that have reasoning behind them; not just someone's opinion thrown out. Opinions are cheap.

Your statement is horribly flawed for the following reasons:

1. your rampant use of generalization
2. begging the question
3. assumption

You and your opinion go have fun.

You're completely wrong. What you said wasn't free-speech, it was a blantant show of disregard for other peoples opinions. By not respecting other peoples opinions, you show that you are ignorant and once again, unable to cope with anything you don't understand... you must be pretty young. You called me an idiot because you were unable to comprehend my opinion. Thus, that makes you the "idiot".
