CF is a Genetic disease that affects the Respitory as well as the digestive systems. It is Fatal in all cases.

Symptoms

* Very Salty tasting Skin
* Persistent cough
* Wheesing or Pneumonia
* Excessive appetite but poor weight gain

CF Facts

* An estimated 30,000 people have CF in the US
* 1 in 31 People ( more then 10 million ) are UNKNOWN carriers of the defective gene.
* CF is the most common Fatal Genetic Disease of Children
* 80% of families that have a child with CF have no family history of CF

I'll add something....there's a test for the most common genes for CF that can be done with a simple scraping of cells from inside the cheek. It is often offered to couples who are pregnant or planning pregnancy to better prepare them especially with a family history.

It's considered fatal but cases vary. I know one woman with a mild case (some gi probs) who was healthy enough in her 30's to have two children.

They have made Great Strides in treating CF in the last 10 years. But there is still a Long way to go. To many Kids are not getting diagnosed (sp) until they are 4, 5 or 6 years old. The test for CF is called a Sweat Test and it is Painless. If you think your child or someone else child may have CF. Please suggest that they have a sweat test done.
