Censors?

There appear to be (unofficial?) (official?) censors who go through threads and delete images they judge to be unacceptable. The post is erased or deleted, with no reason given. I do not like this. I think the censors should at least replace the post with a reason, or something.

One of these 'censors' does it like this:
'Last edited by geronimo_appleby : 10-17-2017 at 08:22 PM.' With no explanation given.

Who are the censors, and why do they have the power to simply erase an image with no reason given? Is there an official list of censors?

Down the right side of the forum is where the moderators are listed.

If the image was removed, it broke guidelines.

The usual reason for an image being deleted is that it showed a copyright notice or the website.

Those images can be linked so that people can click on the link, but not uploaded or displayed by hotlink.

It doesn't matter if you dont like it. This isn't a democracy.
Yup. This is not a public forum. LIT is privately owned and operated. Said owners/operators can do (or delegate) whatever the fuck they want with their private site. Readers here pay nothing. Authors receive nothing. That makes it a 'free' site; but rules are rules, and ownership rules.

Hey...

At least the mod was nice enough delete just the offending images and not the entire thread. :)

I Get It...I Think...

Yes, I get all that. It is just that when one looks across many threads with picture posts, most if not all the prohibitions listed in the rules are breached. Lots of very sexually explicit pictures for example. And yes I get that moderators don't have time to examine every post. It is just that, if I had some explanation given for why my specific image was deleted, I would have a better idea of what may and may not be allowed, so as to guide my future activity. The default of course is to just post links, which I suppose I will do henceforth.

Thanks for all the various feedback, it is helpful.

Geronimo and I do the best we can with our forums. We don't get paid, we do it on our own time. If you don't appreciate the way we mod, please find another forum to post on. Its that simple.

It's a valid complaint that the copyright rules--for both images and reposted articles--are very loosely and unevenly enforced on Literotica. The mods need not get snitty about that. The response to you could just as well be that if mods can't uniformly handle the rules on their forums, they should give up the responsibility.

I moderate all our forums. The work behind the scenes can be prohibitive to the point where you just say fuck it and just start deleting. Even mass deleting.

Try dealing with dozens of fake member registrations a day because some shit head wants to use your work to make himself money. Untold number of posts that represent spam. Stories or posts that get reported because someone got diaper rash (really should you be here?) and the list goes on.

Being a free moderator represents a thankless job so perhaps kudos for serving rather than bricks for not doing it the way you want....

Just a thought.

Yes, but the mods don't have much standing to push it all back on the users, either, which was done here. The complainant has a valid point about the uneven invoking of the rules and deserves a respectful response. The authors, at least, on this site deserve consideration and respect. They provide free the product of this Web site, which is profit base to the owners.

All good points.

the original complaint was answered. true to form, you're shit-stirring, again.

you will see variation across the boards because the myriad forums are moderated by a number of people, each forum being monitored by one or two individuals. we do not have 'sweeping powers' across every board or thread. every day a user or users will push the boundaries: veiled under-age references, inappropriate images - a thread was deleted only yesterday for containing linked images to some very suspect photos.

yes, mistakes do get made. i apologise for errors i've committed.

however, maybe keep things in perspective? this is hardly a North Korea/Iran kind of issue.

basically, at the end of the day we're trying to keep the site within the constraints of the law. if we weren't here, most likely the site would be taken down.

no fun for anyone then.

So very true, and one appreciative user says thanks to all of you for your work - and a huge e-hug

So you're not quite thankless
