Cenk Uygur, host and founder of the online progressive news show The Young Turks, announced late Thursday that he is running for the California congressional seat left vacant by the recent resignation of Rep. Katie Hill.

“We have ridiculously low wages and a horrible healthcare system because politicians took money from those industries to sell you out.”

“I’m going to represent those people in a way that they have not seen before. I will not be a standard politician. I will fight for them,” Uygur said in his announcement Thursday. “I’m going to fight to get money out of politics, and I’m going to call it like it is.”

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) Thursday night became the first member of Congress to endorse Uygur’s candidacy.

Cenk, is a "Take NO Prisoners" type of Progressive. The DNC must be scared.

His main opponent on the Dem side is a woman who Hill has already endorsed. Given Cenk's history, I'm sure that's going to go over well with him and his supporters.

I'm not a fan of Uygur. The few times I've watched him he seems to be constantly getting hold of the wrong end of the stick or missing the point. I don't think he's anywhere as near as smart as he believes himself to be. He's to much like trump in that regard, for my liking.

Update: he got his ass thoroughly kicked. Final results aren't in yet because California apparently uses the abacus to tabulate them, but he's at around 5%. So I guess it's back to his fulltime job of insulting women and anyone who doesn't think Bernie Sanders walks on water.
