One study I read a few years ago says that over 85% of the world population carried the herpes virus, with about 20% exhibiting outbreaks and about 60% being contagious despite having no symptoms.

I kept this up well into the night even though the cold was painful.

Suddenly there was a snap. Loud and physical. I have never had another outbreak. My wife who I met a few years later never contracted Herpes.

Many years later I gave platelets at City of Hope. Some months later I was contacted to see if I would take part in a study. The study involved a herpes which apparently most people contract but is rather asymptomatic. I was called in a number of times to give blood samples. Next they would be taking a pencil eraser sized tissue sample.

The person drawing the blood was an M.D. I related the above. I was never asked to come in again. No explanation. Just dropped.

I am not making any claims, but wondering about others experience.

The herpes on your lip is called herpes simplex 1, and genital herpes is type 2. Type 2 is passed on through sexual contact, and is characterized as being below the waist on the genitals or rectum. Very rarely type 1 can affect the genitals. That MD should know that.
