I'd also add, instead of him being seduced by another woman, make the frustrated husband the aggressor. Have him attempt to seduce a wide range of women and fail but I like the mistress you describe, perhaps something the opposit of his spouse. But as sirhugs says it does sound very deep and psychologically intriguing.
