Cats, which one of you left a hairball on my Hoagy Carmichael songbook?

Cats have decided opinions when it comes to Hoagy.

What are they doing playing my piano, anyway?

Damn critics.

Mine must not be so musically inclined. However the satin walnut finish of my piano now has some interesting etchings thanks to my little devil. There is a reason you don't own super-expensive furniture with pets.

My favorite Hoagy Carmichael movie scene is in "Bringing Up Baby" with a very young Kate Hepburn and gorgeous Cary Grant in a classic screwball comedy. Hoagy is playing for them while they sing along. I can't remember the name of the song, right now.

I love old movies along with the new. We watched Arsenic and Old Lace and Harvey this week. Last night, Fred Claus. Getting in the mood for Christmas and the falling snow right now is helping alot. I feel like making Magic Cookie Bars.

Fred Claus did one thing that I have never really seen before. It showed the dysfuctional side of the Claus family and was quite a hoot in a couple of places because of it. I do so love dysfuntion at Christmas. National Lampoon's Christmas is a big favorite. Down and Out in Beverly Hills is another good one. And of course, Bad Santa. My family does not really like the latter, but I thought it was funny as hell.

Nope. They just got the cover.

It cleaned up rather nicely.

How ya doing, Fireman?

I been better, but it is rather nice to breathe and have no fevers. I made coupons on my trusty hp printer, I gave my grandchild "Big Hugs," I cooked chicken parm-- a good day.

You?

It is a stone ass relief not to have fevers. They started around October 15th!

But no longer.

Really good to find them departed.

It feels good to have stuff crossed off the list, doesn't it?

Did someone mention hoagies? If someones going on a food run, I'll have a foot long with salami, roast beef, ham, pepperoni, provolone, rabbit food, hot peppers, green peppers, onions, extra mayo, extra oil and parsley flakes. Also a sack of chips and a large Dr. Pepper.

Here's a twenty, keep the change for gas. :D

Arsenic and Old Lace? One of the great ones, right up there with A Night at the Opera and Animal Crackers. Chaaaaaaaaaaaaarge!

I always wondered if Hoagy got his name, as in nickname, because he liked to eat hoagies. Maybe, it is completely unrelated. Of course, I have yet to look that up.

You've mixed up two films there -- in Bringing up Baby they sing (unaccompanied) "I can't give you anything but Love". But Hoagy doesn't appear in that movie. He appears with Bogart and Bacall in "To Have and To Have Not", where he does his famous "Bangin' the Gong" piece.

"Stardust" is one of my favorite songs, EVER

Cantdog, yes, Hoaglund Howard Carmichael. Must be a family name, don't you think?

SubJoe, you are so right, of course. My problem is too many old movies I have seen lately have begun to bleed into each other in my old muddled brain. It was "The Best Years Of Our Lives" I was thinking of, as well as seeing Hoagy in "Topper", for which he wrote the song, Old Man Moon. (Thorne Smith wrote Topper and I have several other novels by him that I refer to for comedic style.) Thanks for straightening me out.

My best memory of Hoagy was in the TV show "Laramie", 1959-63, when I was 7 through 11 years old. What a life that man had!
