A well-known Catholic priest who hosts a weekly religious television show said in an interview this week that child sex abusers are often seduced by teenage boys and should not go to jail on a first offense. But the comments were removed by the website that published them and replaced by an apology from the priest and the site's editors.
The Rev. Benedict Groeschel, 79, who hosts a weekly show on the Catholic television network EWTN, originally made the comments in an interview with the National Catholic Register. He also referred to convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky as a "poor guy."
"People have this picture in their minds of a person planning to -- a psychopath. But that's not the case. Suppose you have a man having a nervous breakdown, and a youngster comes after him. A lot of the cases, the youngster -- 14, 16, 18 -- is the seducer," Groeschel was quoted as saying in the interview, which is no longer available on the paper's website.

He sort of apologized, claiming he's old and can't think straight anymore. I think he got smacked around by their PR people.

I mostly agree. I don't really think they're the most bastardized but their longevity combined with the incredible power they have has caused them to lose their way long ago and enact some of the most un-Christian things one can think of. Not to mention the Popes all get to make up the rules as they go anyway so it's less about WWJD and more about WWPD.

Typical, deny any culpability and blame victims. So many thoughts, ugh.

At my sons grade 9 graduation part of the ceremony was mass. During his sermon the priest is extolling the importance of god and church is in your life then he makes this statement..... "Children, if your parents are not taking you to church, ask them why they're abusing you!"
So now a priest is calling me a child abuser because i don't bring my kids to church.

The Catholic church is severely broken. Words strong enough have not yet been invented to convey my disgust.

A personal experience

The catholic church...... a force for good in the world ?.............nazi lovin. child raping ....yes its a church, but not as any sane person would expect one to behave . I left when my own priest refused to denounce the rape of children in a local home by generations of priests. even after the police had proved there case . And six ex priests were jailed.........

And my personal experiences:

Never had been touched by a priest, even as an altar boy.

I knew of MANY boys and girls who were "given personal, hands on" counceling while at "Bible" camp by their ministers, something you NEVER hear. Maybe because people think/believe the Catholic church, ALL churches, rich and can pay them off.

I had an "Ambulance chasing" lawyer come to me and tell me that I "WAS" abused when I was an altar boy, I was just hiding it. He showed me several sworn depositions, including ones from my brother and cousin. He's since been disbarred AND "ex-communicated" from his Armenian church.

Yes, it's reprehensible that this abuse has gone on, but to deny that ONLY priests have been abusing children is disengenuous.
