I am a new writer to this site. I submitted my first story here, or rather the first chapter of my first story, and it was approved and posted fairly quickly and with no great amount of fuss or frustration. However, it was placed in "Erotic Couplings" rather than the "Nonconsent/Reluctance" tag I had selected. Thinking this was perhaps due to the nature of the chapter--the first part of the story is a little less "intense" than the rest of it--I resubmitted the piece, as per the guidelines, with the next two chapters thrown in to both add to what I had done and illustrate why I had chosen that particular category. After a six or seven day waiting period, the rest of the work was added and the story moved, this time to "Nonhuman", despite it having, to my understanding, no elements of that genre. I emailed the site and, after a day or so, the story seems to be in the right place now. All in all, the piece spent about 2 weeks or so in incorrect categories.

Is this a technical mistake on the part of the site? Does this sort of thing happen often? Or do I not properly understand the categories? Perhaps my story is not "forceful" enough for the selected category. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Laurel, the sole selection editor here, reserves the privilege of placing works where she thinks they best belong (and, as she's the sole processor of stories here, she's the only one with an across-the-board understanding of what best goes where.) It's really just spinning your (our our) wheels to hash specific category rejection issues out on the forum. You can contact her directly, using the "Laurel" name, through the PM messaging system (top right of this page). Don't send an e-mail. She evidently is too swamped to even check those.

And she's not unreasonable. I've questioned and had a category placement changed after a discussion with her.

I had a story placed in a different category to the one I'd selected and felt Laurel was right. I got good downloads and feedback which I hadn't expected.

Another point is, that people sometimes post different chapters of the same story series across different categories. In fact I'm doing this deliberately at the moment, I've got two chapters in Nonhuman, one in Romance and the next one (if my poor editor ever manages to get a break and edit it for me) will be in Gay Male. This can be a way of increasing your readership of the story.

BTW, as you're new here, I'll just warn you - if anyone says anything weird, it's because they are weird. It is nothing to do with you. Totally ignore it! If a fight starts in your thread, it's not your fault. Totally ignore it! Most interesting trolls I ever met. Love them all and frequently cook them breakfast if a SPAM thread turns up. There are lots of lovely people too who will answer all kinds of questions for you from how to do a cupid's bow lipstick outline to what exactly is bestiality. Ask anything you want but do not post in Loving Wives. If you do and they make mean comments on your work: Totally ignore it!
