I was told I submitted a story in the wrong category by an anonymous reader.

I submitted: https://literotica.com/beta/s/the-porn-writers in the Loving Wife category because the description says "Married extra-marital fun: swinging, sharing & more." The reader says it should be in the Anal category because there is anal sex in the story. I didn't put it there because that category description is "The butt, and nothing but."

Being this is only the second story I've submitted, I'm rather new at picking which category it should be in. I'm looking for some guidance here so I can resubmit the story into the correct category.

I wouldn't worry overly much about what our most prolific critic (Mr Anon) says. There are, I assure you, worse comments, especially in LW. It was very probably the right call on your part.

Laurel holds veto power over the category a story is posted to. You can just "oh, well" with anyone disagreeing about where it was put.

For some reason, anal gets a lot of flack on Lit. There are a few on the other side who complain there's not enough outside the specific category, but they seem to be outweighed by people who complain it "ruins" the story.

Look at the Toplist/Hall of Fame for the Anal category. I only realized how low the scores are in the category today when I looked because I was wondering about what was unusual but consistent amount of activity on a story that's been out for a while. Much to my surprise, I discovered that a so-so score virtually anywhere else is very high on the Hall of Fame for that category.

So, you don't even get a pass in the category that's specifically for anal stories.

You just have to be prepared for that whenever you put anal in a story on Lit. It's probably going to get complaints and take hits to the score. It's not as if the haters will gut it, and most of them aren't particularly vitriolic in their comments, but the effect is there, and very much noticeable.

Seems to me it's an unusually strong bias on Lit. I don't see nearly the kind of disdain for it on the other sites I post on.

There's also the fact that you said it's a Loving Wives story. Saying something belongs in another category is par for the course there.

Thank you for the replies. I didn't know the anal would take a hit like that. I hope that's the only reason for the low score it's receiving. I'll leave it where it is and not worry about it.

Some readers dislike anal and complain about it. But that doesn't mean they're right. I wrote a story about mom-son incest where mom touched her anus and a reader complained that no "self-respecting mom" would indulge in anal. Incest, sure, but not anal. I mean, what can you do about a reader like that?

Loving Wives has a very critical readership, but a very large one, too, so it's probably worth while to keep publishing there if your goal is to reach many readers.

I think this is more an issue with the LW readership being particular than anything else (and they DO seem VERY particular). My second story here is in BDSM, it's half cunnilingus and half anal. For a long time it was my highest rated story.

Like Simon said, if the main point of the story is the extramarital fun, then LW is the right place for it.

I’ve thrown anal into stories in a few different categories without anyone complaining. You just got an asshole whose picky, that’s all. Nothing wrong with anal in loving wives. I just submitted one there myself which has first time defloration which includes anal, anal rape, group sex which includes anal, and so it goes...

As someone who can be a bit(?) of a category Nazi, I understand that there can be MANY different types of activity going on that doesn't change the category. If the cheated on spouse finds a new woman of a different race, that doesn't make it I/R; if he bangs two chicks, that doesn't make it group; if the two chicks do each other doesn't make it lesbian.

If the main point of the story is the extra-marital activity, of whatever flavor, then LW is where it belongs.

Tags for anything unusual should be used.

I have anal in a lot of my LW stories but, have never had a comment about it being in the wrong category. Of course I don't allow Anon comments.

I do get a lot of "just some more cuck shit" from a reader or two when none of my husbands are "cucks' in todays definition. None are whimps or cages and they are participants.

I realize that the tale could be written to emphasize any "subject catagory" (anal, les, GM, I/T, IR etc) but if it primarily focused on the film making aspect could it reasonably be Exhibitionist/Voyeur? Would there be a better place to slant it towards?

There does need to be some emphasis put on them intending to release the video ( and probably reacting to said release ) for it to really hit the E&V kink of showing off for strangers. It still qualifies without that in my mind, but it probably won't get the same level of positive reaction.
