Dear Friends,

I posted the question (below) in another group, and it was suggested I redirect it here:

Dear Friends,
Im puzzled as to the categories to use with some stories. I recently posted a story in loving wives, but it was about an unfaithful wife, (this seems to be the norm!) .It receieved some criticism in the public board. Should there be a seperate category for naughty or unfaithful wives?

...and; if a story is about a naughty auntie who taunts and teases her nephew, but no penetrative sex occurs, should this be in 'mature' or 'incest'?

It seems that the decision to,post in certain categories can have rather negative consequences!

Any thoughts?

Quillman,

Welcome to the AH. You'll probably get a lot of response to your question. Category choice is often tricky since many stories could, logically, be placed in several categories. I once wrote a story to see how many catergories I could include. Best I recall it was about seven or eight.

The best advice I ever got on category choice came from Lit legend Killermuffin. Her theory is to place the story where it will piss off the fewest readers. So a "cheating" wife story could go in Erotic Couples, however Loving Wives would give readers a clearer idea about the subject and warn away readers who don't like stories about adultry. But what if the wife is black and her lover is white, or the white wife's lover is her black uncle by marriage?

In the latter case, Incest would be the best choice. Odds are, most people who like incest stories would not be turned-off by stories about interracial sex or affairs by same-sex couples, much less heterosexual sex between maried couples.

If in doubt, ask Laurel for help when you submt the story.

Thanks for your advice. Nice to know Im not alone with the question! Your guidance is much appreciated.

Once in a while, the site itself will redirect a story, submitted into one category, to another.

I read a few Loving Wives stories. Maybe it was just my bad luck, but nearly every one were these bizarre fetish stories of a wife who sets out to have anyother man and rub it in the husband's face. Make him watch, have the guy cum on the husband, humiliation stuff. Mine wasn't like that, so I picked another cat. I called it Erotic Couplings because people were fucking. The site left it there.

I don't know. My Anal story had an interracial couple and I got some hate mail. But it's a hot story (Jip) and the story has an H despite the limited hostility.

Some authors preface the body of the story with an italicized author's note, a warning that the story contains whatever it contains that might shock people. Clearly, no one knows how much grief "might have been" without the note, but they do it, in the interest, they say, of fairness.

It's not a big deal. I rather had fun getting hate mail. :) I'd say, suit yourself. Whichever element in the story you think is the most controversial, put the story in that category. People who don't like incest usually really don't want to stumble on it. But the whole problem is nonserious.
