I don't know about other categories, but I've seen many stories in Loving Wives tagged "Loving wife or wives." That seems redundant to me.

Does anyone else think that's odd, or know why this happens?

Laurel sometimes does provide tags, but they usually are provided by the authors. And if an author hasn't submitted too many stories, they probably know little about the better tags to use. If that one doesn't make much sense to you, I assume you just won't use it.

Authors may tag a story with the category so that people can search by category. Recently I think Laurel has been removing those tags, because the search facility lets people specify the category when they search.

I don't know if the old user CP allowed that. It's been to long since I used it.

That's precisely why I used it. Although now that you mention it a search limited to category would bring it up anyway. I'll have to rethink my tag strategy. It is redundant.

U used to make up my own tags, til I found that there is a Tag Portal where you can select a category and see the most popular tags for that category for the last 30days, 7 days, and all time.

I find that using that to select tags for my stories has increased my views noticeably, and similar stories are a much better match than when I picked my own tags.
