Catagory help Please

Need help deciding under which catagory this belongs. Forgive me for posting the whole strory here but it's not really long and I thought it would be easier than emailing it to people for opinions.

I would say it could go into a couple of categories: Erotic Couplings, Romance, or Non-Human. You would have to choose which category your target audience might look to find such a story. I would lean either towards Romance or Non-Human, myself.

I'd say non-human, but maybe I'm wrong...

It's either that or the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section, and I think Fantasy means more, sword and sorcery type in most cases. Though, I guess that's open to interpretation.

I'd post it non-human, no question...

I believe that same story is already in the Nonhuman category, or one very close to it. It has a different title, but the scenario is exactly the same as a story I've read here a year or two ago.

Most likely, it's a common idea, but so what? It's still written pretty well. And you can't copyright an idea...

Wh, I assure you this is my own original story. Damn, and I thought I had a somewhat unique story idea here. But then again with 1000's of people posting to this site I guess I should have been more realistic.

I have never read any stories from the non-human section so I had never even given that one a thought.

Just something to point out, Wicked N Erotic. Erotic Couplings is so large that stories are easily buried there. The Non-Human category is still fairly small and your story might get more views. The same is true for Romance.

Personally, Erotic Couplings intimidates me. I had a story there that did very well as far as voting goes, but was one of my least viewed. It's a tough category, IMO.

Wh, I assure you this is my own original story. Damn, and I thought I had a somewhat unique story idea here.

It's a scenario that's actually pretty common, I've seen several variations on the "last visit by a ghost" plot.

I didn't mean to imply that you had plagiarized the story, but was struck by how similar your vision was to the previous story I remembered -- others might not understand how parallel evolution works so I thought I should mention the similarity.

I knew what you meant but I wanted it to be clear that it was mine unless someone else reading this thread didn't take your comment as I had and the way you intended it. Just like the "Who's Your Favorite Author" thread, funny how so many people have the same interest and ideas.

I'm certainly no expert or anything, but from what I've experienced, a story gets the most views within the first week it is published - while it is still on the "New" list. Once it slides from there or goes to page 4, you are pretty much settled with the number of views you receive.

With that in mind, you want to capture that intial reader. That person who goes to the "New" listing and then is looking under categories that interest them. For me, that is the only reason you need to pick a category. (Well, that and you certainly would never put "Gay Male" under "Erotic Couplings - the hate email would NEVER end! Why are men so sensitive to that?)

What gets your story read after it is no longer on the "New" list is your own promotion. Placing links in your sig line, linking it to a home page (if you have one), that sort of thing. Also, the more you write and submit, the more people will want to read other things you've written.

But, ultimately, it's that initial reader you want to snag and keep interested. That's the person you need to try to think of. If it were you, where would you look? What would catch your interest? (Also why titles and descriptions are very important as well!)

A male - very male! - friend of mine send me a story that I had agreed to read through before he posted it. When I read it, it turned out to be a Lesbian Sex-novel. Why, thank you very much..!

Even though I have respect for people's choices, I did shock the hell out of me.

But, as for gay stories and postings... I have a few stories translated to Swedish in the Non-English section, and I always make sure to tell people in the commentary that it involves gay male sex. If people still read it, and get upset, that's their problem.

If a story really grips me, I can accept just about any fetish/vice/plain weirdism being thrown in.

One of my characters (and they usually start out as me, or is that another thread entirely?) started out as a palin horny young man enjoying the view Across the street and gets embroiled in strap-on, incest, gay and mature sex.
After the initial set up that particular sex sene began suggesting itself so I let it go and was greatly aroused by every occurence.

1. Non-human, though you could put it in Erotic Couplings, too. I've seen a few similar stories in Romance.

2. The cops show up at your door with the news. I know this from personal experience. Not with the StudMuffin, but other immediate family members where we were the nearest next of kin. They come a-knockin. Bereaved do bad things.

The simple answer is YES, one of those three.

By the "rule of least offense," I'd put it in Incest, personally.

Which aspect of the story gets the most emphasis? Do you stress the racial differences more than the sisterly incest? or is the swinging (Loving Wives) the main point of the story?
