This thread has recently started up again. The plot isn't to complex just yet and so it is easy to join.
Read the first post of the IC and you should get a pretty good feel for how things work but here are the notes on some of the questions that were asked when this thread first opened and the basic mechanics.
"You have your knights and you have your wizards, but seldom do you find someone who is great at both, save the card users. Certain people are born with a blank card with in them as the grow a picture is formed on it. Depending on how that person acts that picture changes into who they are. That is a soul card.
The soul card is the secret of the most powerful people of the world. A soul card develops with the person often passively boosting them at what they do. A knight with the soul card is stronger because of the magic of his card aids his defense and offense in battle. A wizard can cast more spells with out nearly the mental fatigue of one who doesn't have a soul card, and even when he is fatigued he has his cards to help him. You see the cards are magic on there own. They don't drain from the magic forces with in the wizard but instead upon there own magic forces. Why I've heard some cards are so powerful they can even destroy entire kingdoms. It doesn't matter what forces the card user dedicated his life to, be they the sword, the magic, or even the plow, and card users could control such power."
"Father will you stop spinning stories like that You'll scare poor Billy. And besides no one has ever seen a card that powerful."
Okay I figured I'd do a bit of a story to gain some interest. Yes a card user can have any number of skills in addition to his deck. I do strongly recommend you make your character a card user, on top of that you can make him a wizard, a farmer, a priest, or what ever else you feel like. After all you are simply born a card user and need no more skill then that.
Having a deck full of powerful cards on the other hand requires a bit of effort and money. There are for types of cards, soul card are virtually useless by them selves, except for the card users personal soul card which is normally in him. Extra soul cards are extremely useful in temples how ever. (More on that latter.) A soul card can be drawn out in two ways, the first is by the card users choice where it hovers in a light just in front of the card users body, most card users don't do this often because any card user can grab it and pull it away which leaves the original owner dead and the new owner with an extra soul card, and secondly with a special soul card ability that lets you pull out the soul card of others when they are defenseless.
The oater types of cards are spell cards that have instant magic effects. these range from fireballs to defensive enchantments, next are item cards which transform into items when used and back when the owner chooses. Item cards can make arrows, swords, nets, and anything else. lastly we have monster cards, the person who activates the monster card has control over it. Some things like skeletons last until they are defeated other ones like dragons last only a few hours or until it is defeated.
Any card that is used becomes blank for an hour or longer. The card can't be used again till it recharges it's natural magic power, at which time the card returns to it's original picture. Item cards are an exception and generally recover depending on how long they were in the items shape.
Around the word are card temples. These temples have a chest at it's center. If two cards are placed in that chest they may fuse into one new card, for example a sword and a dragon may be placed in to form a dragon knight or a dragon slaying sword or what ever else makes sense. Soul cards almost always produce a very strong upgrade of the oater card placed in the box with it. Secondly each card gains experience when it is used, if a card is placed in the chest by itself it may change into a more powerful version of itself. Example a fire ball becomes a meteor or a baby dragon becomes an adult.
