Casting Call: Mr. Magee's Apocalypse

This is an open casting call for anyone who is interested in apocalypse, zombie, end of the world, dystopian type of stories.

The year is 2061 and the world is covered in ash.

Few remember why the wars broke out. The ones who do remember keep quiet about such things, or get a lost look in their eye as they think back to the simpler times.

New weapons with new technology rose, and darkened the sky. It is now a permanent overcast.

Billions were killed. Their bodies laying in the desperate tombs of once great cities.

Some people are trying to rebuild. Some are trying to learn about the lost art of science and technology. Some are merely lost souls willing to take whatever they can find. It is up to you what you want to be.

I don't have any set rules at the moment. I imagine the setting will be somewhere in Oregon, where plants still grow and it still rains pure water. Other than that, come up with a fun and interesting character that wants to run around this wasteland with me.

The apocalypse would have taken place about 20 years ago. So there can be people with former lives, and backgrounds in whatever you want. And libraries still exist, if they haven't been burned down, where a person who can read can learn all they need.

You can be as smart or feral as you want.

We can have mutations/zombies wandering around as well. I imagine some sort of radiation took place in this apocalypse. It might have changed some... maybe even for the better.

This will be a place for ideas, characters, and filling out general back story and the world we all want to play in.

So are the characters going to just be traveling or is there going to be some kind of base?

I imagine most of it will take place around a small settlement of people trying to get back into some sort of normalcy with their lives.

Oh, we can give this town an Ironic name, like Hope.

Up to you if you want to live in the town, on the outskirts, or simply wander into the area.

I'll be playing Mr. Magee.

Mr. Magee owns the town of Hope. At least if anyone asked around, that's what they would say. Back before the darkness, Mr. Magee was a high school teacher. He spent his days with a tired brown suit and an old briefcase filled with tests and essay papers from his students.

Then the end happened.

Mr. Magee laid low at first. He had some emergency supplies, and was able to hold down at his own house for a few days. Eventually he ran out of food. By that time the utilities had stopped working.

There were still a lot of people around at first. Some of them were looting, still thinking things like flat screen tvs and surround sound systems were important to have. When days turned into weeks, those things became mute. Guns. Cars. Food were the items of trade on the street.

Looting turned into killing. Killing turned into burning. Mr. Magee didn't even walk out on the streets anymore. People would kill on sight, regardless.

Mr. Magee began to wander.

Eventually he made it to Oregon, and a small town there. The roads had disappeared, swallowed up by the earth, leaving only dirt paths in their wake. This small town had some buildings still standing, and some made merely of rubble. Mr. Magee called this town hope.

He got the water to work. Old irrigation that drained a nearby lake. His days spent as a teacher helped him research what he could to get water flowing.

People started to come. Just stragglers at first. Mr Magee gave them water, for a price. If they had food for him, he would help. If they had items... guns, cars, gasoline, he would make sure they drank for the night.

He found people who were loyal. People who could help him and protect what was his. No one hurt Mr. Magee. They could have overpowered him, but they didn't. Why? Cause he was the only one who knew how the water worked. If he was gone, their supply would be gone.

He had the keys. And people in this town were finally respecting him.


So, that is basically the mayor of Hope, Oregon. You can be a loyalist to him, an enemy wanting to see him brought down, someone just passing through. Maybe you feel like you can run the town for yourself?

Lots of ideas on the table. It is very open.
