If you haven't seen the movie CAST AWAY with Tom Hanks and plan on seeing it, hit the back button now.

OK...

Now that they're gone...

I saw this movie on HBO this weekend. I was looking forward to it for a long time and all I can say is:

THANK HEAVENS I DIDN'T WASTE $9.00 IN THE THEATER ON THIS!

Was anyone else completely disappointed in the ending? I mean not only doesn't he get Helen Hunt, but we NEVER find out what was in the box, or why he picked THAT box to not open, or if he goes after Lari White (country singer IRL, the woman in the pickup truck at the end of the movie)... I mean DAMN i wasted over 2 hours on that movie, for it NOT to have a conclusion? Why'd they have to marry of Hunt? In 4 years time she mourned Hanks, met Noth, got married and had a kid? Couldn't they have Hanks come back with her just ENGAGED to Noth and have her dump him and she and Hanks live happily ever after? Or have him definitely go after White?

So what do you all think? Were you happy with the ending or not? If not, how would you re-write the last 25 minutes (from when he was picked up by the shipping boat)?

I did waste me money, and I didn't like the whole movie. Not just the ending. By the time they finally got to the ending, all I could think of was "Thank God, get me out of this theater."

We had a discussion about this movie on the board when it first came out. I said I felt like I had spent that entire 4 years on the island with him, it moved SOOOO slow. Some people said that made it a good movie, as you felt what Tom Hanks was feeling.
No thank you. I wanted to be entertained, not tortured.

Morning Poker! I watched the movie this weekend too. I think the ending sucked! I was very dissapointed in it. Glad I didn't spend money on it!

Hmmmmmm good one to miss then........hate sucking movies.....

I just saw it for the first time this weekend too. Gotta love HBO, right?

I was surprised that I actually enjoyed it. Now, admittedly, it was 5:30 in the morning and I hadn't been to bed yet, so my judgement may have been impaired. But, it kept me interested, even though I was exhausted.

I was impressed that Hanks could essentially do a one-man movie; it could have been (and frankly, I expected) much worse.

The ending was right, I think. She should have waited through four years? Four years in which everyone is certain that he's dead? A youngish, eager to commit woman? Not very likely. If they had just picked up where they left off, I would have been angry: it's too pat, too typically Hollywood. I liked the little things: after four years, he's most impressed by the ice in his glass. He's uncomfortable in a bed. He's hesitant to speak, after being such a blowhard before.

Not a feel-good movie, and not for everybody. But, I thought it was just fine for what it was trying to be: a modern Robinson Crusoe story. It's not an epic, it's an adventure tale, and a pretty decent one.

I can't tell you if I liked the ending or not......I didn't get that far. After about an hour, the movie bored me so much I turned it off. VERY disappointed in it.

Unless it's a true story, it is my belief that all movies should have a happy ending! If the ending is no good, I hate the whole movie! :D Castaway sucked! Message in a Bottle with whatshisname? That movie double sucked!! Who kills off the leading man as he finds love again? geeeeze, I fucking hate that!!

Exactly, Estevie!!!

I mean c'mon! Hunt saves EVERYTHING related to his crash, yet still gets married and has a kid w/in 4-years. (I just think that was too fast....mourn for a year, then date, then meet someone, then get married then a kid....would take more than 4 years i think...but anyway...)

They're soul mates but she doesn't tell Noth she's leaving him, or needs time to sort things out...She 'moves on' but doesn't finish her Ph.D. when all she has left to do is defend the damn thing...He gives her back the watch (or tries to) but she doesn't give him back the engagement ring (which is what we assume is in the box he gave her at the airport)?

I'd love to see Noth's reaction when he wakes up and their car is gone cuz she gave THAT to Hanks...

I hated the ending. The Helen Hunt thing...I couldn't believe she got married..all that. And that stupid box..what the hell? I did think that Tom Hanks did a great job in the role but, otherwise, I didn't care for it.

Whew, I thougt I was the only one who hated that movie.

My wife saw that it was on, WE GOTTA WATCH THAT! She saw it when it came out.

I was very bored. I kept thinking I had missed whole parts of the movie, like I had dozed off. Like the 30' of extra rope thing. What the fuck was he talking about? Then he pulled that wooden dummy up, I'm like what did I do go to the bathroom and miss something?

A couple of other things happened like that, like I wasn't in on the joke.

Then the ending... What the fuck was in the package? Why did she run out and get in the car, if she wasn't going with him?

Once again, I never go to the movies, not when I pay all that money for cable. I'll wait and watch it for 'free'.
