In his book he said he was offered a scholarship to West Point. West Point doesn't even offer scholarships.
Citation is needed. I have his book. Like literally it's in front of me. I haven't got it memorized obviously but assuming you didn't make this up you should be able to cite that.

A story from Politico?
BWHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Tuition at West Point is free for those who are admitted. Was Ben Carson admitted to West Point? If he was not, he is lying. Otherwise he is exaggerating. Politicians do that all the time.
I read it as a child. I'll admit as a 10 year old black kid it was inspirational. He (even with the various lies that seem to be showing up) a damn good example of the American Dream in action. Nobody is debating the following points. He was a young poor kid born going to school RIGHT as desegregation was happening went to Harvard, became the first man to separate coinjoined twins at the skull with both surviving and went on to be the director of pedatric neurosurgery at John Hopkins (and I'm guessing the first black in that rank but I'm not looking that up and will admit my folly if proven wrong.)
You almost have to question why lie when the reality of your story is already sufficiently awesome.
You can use all the caps you want. In the real world he admitted it. I saw the story break on Bloomberg news. And "Vatican Assassin?" Holy shit. What a loser.
Yes, yes I am the loser....
1. When, if ever, has Carson claimed he actually applied and was admitted to West Point?
Politico says Carson has claimed to have both applied and been admitted to West Point, and Cheney reports West Point has no record of him applying or being admitted. But quotes drawn from two of Carson’s books, as well as statements from his campaign, do not support Cheney’s claim
So let us start with you showing me when he ever said he applied?
Go ahead...I will wait racist shit stain.
At the end of my twelfth grade I marched at the head of the Memorial Day parade. I felt so proud, my chest bursting with ribbons and braids of every kind. To make it more wonderful, we had important visitors that day. Two soldiers who had won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Viet Nam were present. More exciting to me, General William Westmoreland (very prominent in the Viet Nam war) attended with an impressive entourage. Afterwar, Sgt. Hunt introduced me to General Westermoreland, and I had dinner with him and the Congressional Medal winners. Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point.
Yes, yes I am the loser....

According to the Politico story, Carson couldn't have been offered a scholarship without having first applied and being admitted.
In his defense if his ROTC claims are accurate he probably would have been accepted and if you get a scholarship for free I can easily see how an 12th grader talking to a War Hero could translate "Hey come on down, you'll get in and they'll pay for it" (Or something along those lines.) as being accepted with a scholarship when you're recalling it decades later for your autobiography. I sure as fuck can't remember the precise phrasing of shit people told me in high school and it's only been fifteen years for me.

You do get that a Gen. offered to get him in and he decided not to pursue right?
I mean, sure the Gen. didnt have a scholship in his back pocket but he certainly but his word was certainly as good as...
Dr Carson was the top ROTC student in the City of Detroit. In that role he was invited to meet General Westmoreland. He believes it was at a banquet. He can’t remember with specificity their brief conversation but it centered around Dr. Carson’s performance as ROTC City Executive Officer.
He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors. They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission. There are “Service Connected” nominations for stellar High School ROTC appointments. Again he was the top ROTC student in Detroit. I would argue strongly that an Appointment is indeed an amazing full scholarship. Having ran several Congressional Offices I am very familiar with the Nomination process.
