In a significant business development, Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has decided to cancel his collaboration with Elon Musk’s Starlink. The decision comes after a series of tensions between the two magnates, culminating in Slim’s choice to invest in his own infrastructure rather than relying on Starlink’s satellite technology.

Slim’s company, América Móvil, announced plans to invest $22 billion over the next three years to enhance its telecommunications infrastructure. This move is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen its position in the market and reduce dependency on external partners like Starlink. The decision is expected to have a substantial financial impact on Musk’s company, which had anticipated a lucrative partnership in Latin America. The fallout between Slim and Musk was further exacerbated by a controversial tweet from Musk, which implied connections between Slim and organized crime. This accusation, although unproven, added fuel to the already strained relationship between the two business tycoons.

Elon Musk shared a post on his social network stating that Slim could have ties to criminal groups, and five minutes later, Carlos Slim canceled all business collaborations with Starlink in Latin America, which made Musk lose 7 billion US dollars. An hour later, Slim announced that he would transfer his projects for the next 5 years with Starlink, an investment of 22 billion dollars, to companies in China and Europe. More than money, Musk lost his main partner in 25 countries, in addition to giving up all that territory to companies of his competition and, most seriously, causing the USA to continue losing commercial presence and giving it to China.

He should maybe think a little before he shoot his mouth of, especially when dealing with guys like Carlos Slim.

Translation: Mexico cementing their reliance with China for the foreseeable future.

$7b loss? Is that more than it cost him for a senior seat in government?

Canada will follow suit.

Chairman Xi is ecstatic
Canada has a pretty strained relationship with China. After we arrested Huawei's chief financial officer, at Trumps request in 2018. Since then Chinese agents have tried to assassinate Chinese Canadians, and interfered in our elections.

No Trump's fuck up will push us to re engage with other Commonwealth and European countries first.

I had heard about the assassins from India, but not China.

Any links???

Changing the subject slightly; the USA arms industry has done very well for many years selling grossly overpriced materiel to Europe. This was always seen as a quid pro quo for US support of the NATO alliance. Trust in the Trump government has been totally wiped out in the last 48 hours. The former alliances are dead, and no European nation has any reason at all to purchase American armaments. Anyone care to calculate the export losses to the USA? These export losses will not be limited to Europe either, Oz is looking at whether its US "alliance " is worth bothering with, and in particular the future of a major submarine deal.

If Tariffs go ahead, Ontario's Premier, Doug Ford, will cancel a 100 Million $ contract with Starlink to provide rural access to northern Ontario.

This would be Canada's first step in what could become a domino effect...

Yep, and the US defence industry will take a beating as orders are canceled or just not placed. European Defence companies are going to do really well out of this, and give the unreliability of the US, countries like Australia are going to be doing some serious rethinking. That submarine deal will be interesting - the French one was dead - the French managed to screw that one up really badly. Can the US deliver? And any alternatives mean going back to the start and that's a risk too....

Doug's also said he will empty the shelves of American booze, and cut off the Electricity to the North east interconnect ( though that's not as easy as "saying"). The feds have mused about an export tax on Oil. If Trump puts on a tariff of 10%, Canada would add an export tax of 10%. Effectively doubling the cost. Every 1% rise in price is now calculated to add about 7.5 cents to each gallon of Gas in the us.

Myself, I want Trump to fuck around and find out. He seems to be doing this to force an early renewal of his NAFTA deal. I say throw on the tariffs, that might be the best thing to enrage even the maga's about what Trump is doing.
