True. I hope I didn't come off as implying that it wasn't, or that those in the western world with depression has a less valid reason. I only tried to say that it is this downward slope and depression when seeminly everything "should be just dandy" that is the western curse.

Now, I'm not a scholar, not even a layman on the subject, but I'd guess that the imalance is dormant in many of us, and that it doesn't take all that much to trigger it. Sometimes nothing at all. The question is, can it also be caused by severe trauma in people that otherwise would not get depressed?

And should I move this over to the depression thread, so that Lou's thread is kept for the inspirational posts?

#L

No problem Liar, good question, maybe this should be moved over, I think your right, we need some more inspiration here, after all we are writers!
Thanks Liar.

A good chunk of inspiration from a fellow Litster:

Why So Sad?
uncredited by author's request

Why so sad?
You woke up.
Is that not
wonder enough?

Why hurry?
The world
propels you
at bullet speed
already.

Why not pause?
Take a break
take off your shoes
feel the concrete
and imagine
how much better
earth and grass
would feel.

Find earth and grass.
Feel again.

Why not laugh?
Let flawless
beautifully flawed
unadulterated
explosions
of childhood
erase every no,
every don't,
every why.

Why not play?
No really,
why the hell not?

Why not
walk an afternoon,
talk to a stranger,
call an old friend,
dance the pavement,
giggle,
smile,
swoon,
shine...

...sing.

Why do you speak?
You should sing.

Why do you walk?
You should dance.

Why do you read?
You should write.

Why push the envelope
when you can open it?

The Same Difference~

Every living creature on this planet is the same.,.
We have life!
Yet every creature is different...

Every living creature has the same destiny...
Death!
Yet we will all die differently.

Every creature will hunger and thirst
But for different things.

We are all bound to this Earth...
But our ties are different.

We are all like the buds of a rose bush.
We will all bloom at different times.

But the one thing we will all do the same?

see this world differently

Thanks Liar and Abs, I appreciate it.

What you were both saying was interesting, and should be discussed - as it has been a few times here. Please carry it on in the depression thread, or start up a new one. I, for one, wanna know what else you might have said!

Thanks Liar, that was wonderful and very inspirational - exactly the kind of sentiments I love. Please pass on my thanks and admiration to the author. :rose:

Erotic Tail, thank you. "The Same Difference" - that is so true. Lovely.

I was thinking about this thread today while working. Then when I was cleaning the toilets, I started singing. The first song just had to come here.

Wonderful World - Loius Armstrong

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

And that lead me to

I've Got A Name - Jim Croce

Like the pine trees linin' the windin' road
I've got a name, I've got a name
Like the singin' bird and the croakin' toad
I've got a name, I've got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

Like the north wind whistlin' down the sky
I've got a song, I've got a song
Like the whippoorwill and the baby's cry
I've got a song, I've got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

And I'm gonna go there free
Like the fool I am and I'll always be
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
Oh, I know I could share it if you want me to
If you're going my way, I'll go with you
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

And finally,

Woyaya - Osibisa

We are going, heaven knows where we are going,
We'll know we're there.
We will get there, heaven knows how we will get there,
We know we will.

It will be hard we know
And the road will be muddy and rough,
But we'll get there, heaven knows how we will get there,
We know we will.

We are going, heaven knows where we are going,
We'll know we're there.

Yer welcome.

Louis Armstrong singing Wonderful World never fails to bring a smile to my face, though often as not it also brings a tear to my eye.

Thanks for the smile, rg.

Thanks, rg, some beutifully inspirational songs there. Like Mindy, Wonderful World has an emotional effect on me.

After reading through every single post on this thread, I have tears lining my cheeks and my little old heart has taken a beating.

Here is a passage from a book I recently read that I dog earred, This is how I want to be loved...

( He is talking of a pair of designer shoes)...
"I'll take them, then. Even if they're the only part of you I get to keep." He touched her arm. "Tell me that's now how it's going to be, Isabel."
She threw her head back, full of umbrage and bravado. "Why? You want another piece of me?"
He couldn't let her reduce their relationship to only sex.
"Yeah," he said, and his voice had gone all husky and rough. "Yeah, I want a piece. Another piece of mail to join the hundred others in my Isabel file. A piece of the pumkin pie you dole out on Thanksgiving day, to me and the rest of your friends. Peace of mind, the kind a person gets when they know there's always going to be someone around to laugh with, gripe to and count on. Most of all..."
He puts his arm around her. "I want a piece of your heart Isabel. And I'm greedy." .....
" I want the biggest piece you have to give."
She squeezed her eyes shut. "What if I don't have any to give?"
"I'd say you are underestimating yourself."
*****************************************
I read that and thought, if only someone would love me enough to want a piece of me!

Happy thoughts,
Cealy

I made up what I call Kharma cards, little cards I keep in my wallet.
they read:
"Greetings to you friend!
To recieve this card is a sign of good fortune and appreciation.
For you have done a great deed or have proven to be a very special person and your greatness shall not go unrewarded.
Pass this card on to someone you feel is deserving of your gratitude and spread the Kharma."
on the bottom is written:
"Pratice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty."

I give them to persons who have done something kind for me and won't accept anything in return. This way when they have been rewarded for being kind by someone else, they can share the goodness.

I'm all about cycles.

I think we need some inspiration today!

I read a story today about a gentleman in WW2 that went out on the wing of a plane to extiguish a fire during battle. He had a parachute on the caught fire and he fell to the earth, suffered a broken leg and captured. He was given the Victoria Cross.

The sad thing was this was posted in the "oddly enough" pages. I thought, a story of such heroism should be upfront, we don't always hear the story's of the heros that much.

I just wanted to give him another 15 minutes of fame.

Hero's never get the recognition they truly deserve dear... and you can bet your sweet arse his widow had to sell the Victoria Cross at auction to raise money for her care after his death, hopefully of old age, his war pension will have been a shite pitance for all of his heroism.

Salute~

Wow I salute him...well deserved.

I had this posted in my night night story
thread but for those who aren't in to night
night stories...lol I think this is a very enlightening
tale, perhaps many will use its wisdom as I have
Thank you....

"Once upon a time.' looks at you and smiles...
THERE once was a shaolin priest named
Da Mo...who ventured out from his temple in
search of enlightenment to carry back to his
fellow brotherin..and share learnings from the
world.....he was traveling one night when it was
raining and getting dark...he was wet, cold and
tired as he found his way along in the dark.
He came to a cave. Well the gods must be
smileing on me he thought as he made his
way into this cave out of the rain. His feet
stepped and crunching sounds came from
stepping on crunchy things but made
his way in farther thinking it must be wood
blown into the entrance cause not to much
farther in his feet felt soft straw that he
balled up and layed down on in
this pitch black damp cave. He fell asleep
from his weary travel thinking that the gods
have taken care of him this evening and gave
him shelter.....in the middle of the night
Da Mo woke up thirsty and listened as he
heard water dripping so he felt his way over
to the sound and felt what he thought was
a gobblet of liquid. The water was
dripping into some container that he
quickly smelled and tasted and quinched his
thirst. the gods have truely blessed me this
night he thought as he went back to
sleep. .................The next morning he
awoke to see that the crunching was bones
he had stepped across, and the straw was
hair of long dead and left. and the
container of water was a skull that he had
drank from. well Da Mo got a little ill and very
upset....but he went back to his temple
enlightened from a lesson he learned.
"Know what that lesson was??????????"....
......ENEMY'S OF THE MIND..................
every thing was a blessing till his mind had
told him that it was not. The mind rejected its
blessings once the mind knew what
was given to him to comfort him........
and his bodies...his needs were met...
but the mind rejected them...

He gave it his wife befor she died and on her death the children recieved it, they then had to put it up for auction. Sad ending for a heros reward.

An old Cherokee was teaching his grandson about life.

'A fight is going on inside me', he said to the boy.
'It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves.
One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret,
greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment,
inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope,
serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy,
generosity, truth, compassion, and faith'.

'The same fight is going on inside you, and inside
every other person, too.'

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then
asked his grandfather, ' Which wolf will win?'.

The old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed.'

i dont give a damn what people think of me. if they like me fine if not well their missing out on a wonderful lady..

Damn. That's a good one.

We in The West like to think we're so smart. But there is so much other cultures can teach us.

Thanks Champagne.

Bitter sweet

Speaking of thanks for small favours and inspiration in general, I've always found these Green Day lyrics to be just that.

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road.
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why.
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind.
Hang it on a shelf of good health and good time.
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial.
For what it's worth, it was worth all the while.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

The bold part is my particular favourite. Maybe it doesn't actually mean anything at all, but it does to me.

The Tie's that Bind~

FEAR binds my feet...
The feeling of bittersweet!

The rush of an EMOTION...
From a dangerous notion!

The HEART pounds loudly...
So that it I will hear!

The SOUL that feels it's presence near...
Feels the uncertain and shivers queer.

The MIND that races with equations of plight...
The instinct for the LEGS to take sudden flight!

COURAGE I hold to stand an fight...
For it is nothing more than a sound in the night!

When Alexander the Great visited Diogenes and asked whether he could do anything for the famed teacher, Diogenes replied: 'Only stand out of my light.' Perhaps some day we shall know how to heighten creativity. Until then, one of the best things we can do for creative men and women is to stand out of their light.
