Carding underage folks

I card everyone if they don't look like they're atleast 40 years old, no matter if it's for cigarettes or alcohol. I get fake IDs all the time, and I confiscate them if they're obviously not the person in the picture. I've gotten to the point where the person has to have a valid state ID, because out of state ones are usually fake and easy to duplicate. I live in a college town, and I realize that there are a lot of out-of-state students, but I can't tell if some of them are fake or not. So my question is: Am I too hard on them?

You're just doing your job, honey.

Rambling 'hey mister, can you buy me a six-pack?' Rose

Think of what the amount of the fine would be if you sell to an underage person. If you can't afford it, keep on carding. If they are legal you shouldn't have any complaints. Not from anyone that matters anyhow

Too hard on them

Nope, you're just being responsible and protecting your job, like everyone should do.

No, not for a fascist.:p

I worked in a mini-mart last summer, and I carded most cigarette and beer customers. If I failed to, and we were caught in a sting, I would have been fired, and the store shut down for a month. If a clerk doesn't card someone of questionable age, the penalties can be tough.

I still get carded, not always, but I don't mind, and yes it is flattering to get carded (still). I just got carded the other night, I didn't mind, and as the guy said, I'm just doing my job.

Think about how many LESS people are out drinking, because of you.

Lo

I worked in a bar and if we served any one underage we are screwed. Better safe than sorry.

In this state, the cashier/clerk who sells cigarettes or beer to a minor gets fined 1,000 dollars. The store gets fined, too, but so does the cashier. I carded everyone, I ain't proud. A valid state ID or DL, passport, or military ID. Nothing else is acceptable. If they didn't like it, the store manager was very happy to help them. HE can sell them the stuff and get fined.

No, you're not sis. It's your ass, not theirs. Cover it.

Mensa, come on over here and I'll show you fascist and make you like it. Just bring your ID. No minors. *grins wickedly*

I live in a tourist trap. Every summer thousands of people come here to vacation from all over the globe. My uncle owns a wine shop (they also carry some liquer and beer) and they get people comming in with all kinds of ID's, from student IDs to passports.
They had a HUGE customer uproar when they started accepting only state IDs. People actually called the police claiming civil right violations!
Finally they just started asking for 2 IDs for all out of staters. Such a pain in the ass. But when there's a liquer store every 300 yards you just can't afford to loose the business.

Spreading ourselves a little thin, aren't we? I thought your time would be taken up with being "DaddyHorny's" little girl. :p

If you try to confiscate one that you think is an obvious fake and they disagree, then they can have you call the cops and let them determine if the ID is valid. Would YOU let someone take you driver's license away? Neither would I!

Therefore, if they aren't putting up one hell of a fight, my guess is that you're doing a service by taking the ID away from them.

I don't think you're being too harsh at all. Hell, I'd be flattered if someone asked me for ID :) In stores here, they'll card anyone that doesn't look 19 and rightfully so. The provincial government regularly sets up stings to catch small convenience stores.

I got carded for the first time in years last weekend. I'll be 22 in 3 weeks so I thought it was funny.

Right on. You know law enforcement does send in underaged people with and with out id (fake) to see if you will; card them, sell to them. They will bust you if they can.

Cover your ass, no one else will. You can count on that.

I understand not wanting to get in trouble. I however would be very lax in carding if I had to do it.

Speaking of which I just ordered my first illegal drink last weekend! Woo hoo!

I'll be 21 in months anyway. Maybe I'll mature at some exponential rate during these months.
