Car advice?

Now, my sister has one of these babies. Favorite car she's ever had. She will probably get a newer one when she renews her lease. Very easy to get into those tight parking spots.

I have a friend that has one except hers is a couple years newer. She loves it. It is very reliable and she drives ~300 miles per week for work. It was also a used car for her. No troubles so far; she's had it about six months.

Her only problem has been that it isn't self-cleaning. Sometimes it's hard to tell the color.

Okay, we're down to three choices. The prices are all about or exactly the same, and I'm not sure what I want. Anyone have experience to share?

1) 1999 BMW 323i - it has a lot of miles, but who cares, right? I'm not crazy about the color, though (navy blue)

2) 2003 Altima - has all the options, low miles

3) 2003 Acura 32TL - ditto the Altima

2 and 3 are good choices. Don't get the BMW, it'll cost a fortune if it ever needs servicing. I've had two Nissans and they were good cars. One had over 200,000 miles on it before it finally cratered and the other one has near that and my son's still driving it.

I've had great experiences with Nissan. Had a 200 SX coupe in college that I drove ragged...sold it years later when it had over 400K miles on it, and it was still zooming right along.

Had a 1988 Maxima SE that I loved - finally had to give it away, because I couldn't get anything for it if I sold it. It was still running like a dream.

We're looking at a Lincoln LS right now. I'm not much into the whole luxury car thing, but this smaller Lincoln is really nice.

LOL - I was looking to replace my 2003 Taurus wagon about the time you created this thread, and am still looking, or more accurately gave up, because nothing on the market fit my needs as well. I love the Cadillac CTS, and there are rumors about a wagon version for 2009, but I kinda doubt it will happen. If it did I would wait about 6-9 months for some slightly used ones to appear and grab one.

The closest thing to the Taurus wagon that suits my needs is the HHR, but it's a bit plasticky. I'm used to the middle-class, mid-sized comfort-mobile.

I agree with the advice on the above.... with the Acura being the choice if the prices are even close.....

But you know it is a statistical thing..... My one and only Nissan was a disaster.... far and away the worse car I ever owned... within 40,000 miles... head gasket, timing belt, clutch and transmission.... The replacement clutch went out again on my way to the dealer (Ford Taurus...) to trade it in... Did it anyway. Oh... and I loved my Taurus wagon.....

To be a little fair….the warranty (back then) ran out and but Nissan just rejected my letters, etc.. I few years later, I had a clutch on my Taurus SHO prematurely go out.... Being a "performance" car, the clutch was not covered under warranty but on appeal, they DID replace it for free and a year or too later re-called it and replaced it again, this time with a much heavier and reliable clutch which worked perfectly until the day the car died in a bad (but injury free) accident with a BMW.... Since then I have owned Lincolns, etc. which were all great...

I do not expect perfection in my cars... I just want the company to stand behind it. I know my experience is statistically the opposite of most people.... but I will probably continue to buy Fords and I will never own a Nissan again... But that is just me.

I'm just not that crazy about the body style.

I gave my Nissan 240SX to my son. Everybody thinks it's a cool car. You almost never see them in used car lots. People are still driving them.
