Siana listened to the jungle. Its song was in her bones; she knew the meaning of every birdcall, every animal's cry, every rustling leaf. She had lived in the jungle her entire life, a member of the Kaori tribe. Unlike the other tribes of the jungle, the Kaori were matriarchal; they kept men as little more than slaves for breeding purposes, and while the Kaori themselves were no stranger to war, the tribe itself had found that without men, infighting and violence had all but vanished from their camp. It was a place for the abused and lost of the jungle to go to, but Siana was not one of these lost souls; she was born to the Kaori, a pureblood. And as a pureblood who had just come of age on her 18th summer, it was her duty to find new blood.
She had traveled through the jungle, alone, for nearly a week now. The neighboring tribes feared and hated the Kaori, and Siana knew she'd never be able to woo one of their women away. So she had traveled further and further from her tribe, into regions of the jungle unknown to her. Yet she knew the jungle's song, even in this unfamilair territory, and what the jungle told her now was that others were drawing near. They were not of a competing tribe; she could tell. By the nosies they were making, and by the scents they brought with them, they were outlanders. Explorers.
Siana's heart began to race. Outlanders were rare and exotic, and if one of them was a woman she could capture and bring back to her tribe... her prestige in the tribe would be assured.
Giddy with excitement, the lithe woman gathered her gear and clambered up into the branches of a tree that overlooked the probable path the outlanders would take. Thirty feet up, her bronzed skin blended with the golden bark of the tree where it wasn't clad in her leather hunting armor, and her bright red hair hanging in dredlocks down to her ample chest could easilly be mistaken for the brilliant wings of a parrot or other bird. She calmed her breath and watched and waited for the group to draw near. She had no intention of striking as soon as she saw them; no... better to follow them until they set up camp, to judge their defenses, and to select her target only then. Of course... there was always the chance they had no women in their group, in which case Siana was prepared to move even further... but she had a feeling that someone in this group would be perfect for her needs.
