Canada Closes Tehran Embassy, Expels Iranian Diplomats from Ottawa.

An outstanding political move...

...every UN member nation should do the same at the very least until the Islamic Republic of Iran removes the over 25K of its Revolutionary Guard mercenaries Assad is employing in murdering his own people.

Time to clear out....someting is happening

Of course most people here don't care about anything Canadian other than our super hot actresses and our ownership of the hollywood comedy machine...but the Globe & Mail had a good article on the matter:

I guess we must have been given the secret sign by Israel...but with elections coming up next year in Iran and most Iranians being ProWest, I see this as a mistake on our part, a missed opportunity to play a role in helping build a diplomatic bridge between Iran & the West.

Now that we officially consider them a terrorist state/ sponsor of, negotiations are off the table.

We made a bold move, will anyone else get the cojones to say suck it to Mahmoud Imadinnerplate?

What makes you think they could have built a bridge to the west?

I don't think Iran wants that.

I don't know if we could/couldn't do anything to help, but it's always easier if you maintain diplomatic relations.

What you think is nice and all, but if you read the article (it's not long and it's from a real newspaper, not a political rag) and have a google around, you'll see that it's widely held that most educated middle and upper middle class Iranians are proWestern democracy.

I agree with everything you wrote above.

The real question is why now? Either they believe their is an imminent war coming or they have already tried all of the tactics mentioned in the article without success and are simply trying something different.

I read about that a couple of days ago.

It's a good development in a bad situation.

The real question is why now?

It could be we got the secret "get outta Dodge" wink from someone....could be we're doing it to send a signal...but as the article says, we kept our embassy open in Libya a LOT longer.

I think it's a mistake, regardless of the rationale.

I also agree with what Putin said the other day as the rationale for not backing UN intervention in Syria: Iraq & Afghanistan have both been expensive & ugly and at the end of the day, have produced no real change, just misery.

Harper's foreign policy is absolutely the only thing I agree with him about

That's because you are a self-serving Jew hypocrite.

Here in Zim, we welcome aid from Iran. We also welcome it from Israel, if they wish to provide it.

It goes into my personal bank account.

psssst...if you're going to pretend to be someone, do a little homework on who you're pretending to be

despite their rather totalitarian government, Zimbabwe has a healthy respect for freedom of religon, and Mugabe isn't anti-semite

fuck you're a dumbass
