Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act:
Criminalize those who fuel the demand for prostitution, i.e. purchasers of sexual services;
That's going to hurt a few women out there, how many, who knows.

You see, patriarchal and feminist moralizing aside, prostitution is work, just like any other line of work. Like any other line of work it's probably the one skillset that some people have. (Like when you only know carpentry or plumbing - you perform a service and get paid for it.) If this law achieves its purpose (however unlikely that it will) then men will obey the law and stop going to prostitutes. A lot of those women will then lose their source of income.

All because angry anti-sex feminists turned the issue of human trafficking and the murder of women into a giant political opportunity and the Conservative anti-sex crowd joined forces with them in the name of family values and obsolete traditional conservatism.

Ironically, feminists also shot themselves in the foot even worse than this, as bans on prostitution are known to cause even more trouble for women. No doubt Conservatives will snicker - in private, of course - at "immoral slutty godless prostitute sinners" getting hurt or killed.

Hate to engage with you.. but many many feminists are opposed to this.. including the Premier of Ontario who has already vowed to not enforce the law

and they do so, because this law forces prostitution into the streets where it is more unsafe for women... nor does it do anything to change outdated laws on sexual exploitation , human trafficking, assualt or procurement

this is a case of conservative morality meeting a select group of those seeking anti-prostituion laws.. bastardizing what they want and then proclaiming a " victory" for women... when it all it really says is that the only good prostitute is a dead one

this is a law that will punish prostitutes and those that seek them out.. but will do absolutely nothing to foster any change...it's window dressing for being " tough" on crime and infantilizing women

Well we can agree that Conservatives are certainly a major part of what pushed this law into existence. And we also agree on their motives.

As a Canadian I find all of this talk about protecting the rights of street women - drivel. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the laws prohibiting solicitation was ultra vires and violated a hooker's constitutional rights but, gave the government a year to come back with a better law. This is a load of paap. The hooker can entrap a guy (aka - solicit) but the dude with the money cannot accept her offer. Foubard.

Make it legal and bring the monitoring of hookers under the purview of the local health authorities and then tax the proceeds from each business transaction. You will eradicate prostitution for sure.
