Can you trace email accounts?

Report him to his Internet Service Provider by forwarding the nuisance emails to them. The email address would be abuse@xxx.com....his domain name goes where the x's are.

So if his email address is joe@aol.com, you would forward the nuisance email to abuse@aol.com.

They will either warn him or close his account.

No easy way...

...but if he is using the same isp you can download neotrace lite from www.neoworx.com. Enter the isp he is using (XXXXX@whatever.com) substituting www.whatever.com. This should give you the street address, telephone number, and contact email for abuse reports of his ISP.

If you're using outlook for email you can set it up to "ignore" and automatically delete his incoming emails so you don't have to deal with them.

Maybe Weird Harold has answers on this one.

YES

click on your setting in your e-mail account. set it to show the full address and it will show the isp, how many people it passed thru and who originated it.

Full header, not full address. It'll show you if he's using a remailer or anything like that. I assume he's using a free one like Yahoo or Hotmail, etc and that will show you what his actual ISP is.

Of course I do, but most of the good ones have already been given.

In Outlook, on the tools menu, there is a "message Rules" choice. You can set a rule to watch for this person, and dlete the message from the server without even downloading it, or automatically forward it to the security&abuse address of his server.

The mail rules dialogue looks like this:

I'm convinced that this creepy guy who keeps emailing me is now using a different email address (and personality). Is there any way to check?

Here is a link to inform you on how to find out hidden traces of originating e-mails:

http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?...766678:2718086:74294&r=Computers+and+Internet

If that person is logged into a shell or a free e-mail account such as hotmail, excite, yahoo, etc. it may be harder to trace since the routing ip address passes through the servers of the free acounts and does not necessarily indicate an orginating ip address.

Once you find the ip address and the orginating server you can begin to locate the perpetrator by executing a "traceroute." In smaller towns or demographic cities where they are seperated by districts or subdivisons, it is easier to see a few letters, as you can see the orginating route is from Tampa, Florida:

Traceroute has started ...
