Can you really have fun doing your job?

If your are just doing a job it seems mundane, no end and usually unhappyness follows.

My question is how many people have just out right quit their job, careers, or what ever you do to pay the bills and little life luxuries you allow yourself?

I do electrical work (an Electrician), I enjoy it but I get wraped up in the time thing of just how many customers I can help in a day. There allways seems one more is in need at the end of the preverbial day.

I was reciently released from active duty with the Texas Guard while guarding the airport from terriorists attacks. This I enjoied very much! I guess i enjoy the military and all the good and bullshit that goes with it, call me crazy.

Now I must return to the electrical work! I am a people person and try to enjoy the human connection, but doing customer service is pretty much all business.

I have tried the state and government jobs, but alas I am the wrong color and race it seems.

I continue to apply to careers that I am qualified and that interest me. There is still hope in my heart 'cause I don't have any luck left. (I sold it to feed my SO and kids.)

So how about it ? Are you doing work that you have fun with??

I mostly enjoy my job in that it can be very challenging and I like to be engaged/involved in what I do. I specialize in computer and internet security.

There is a fair amount of pressure involved in my work but it went over the top after Sept. 11th.

I can intellectually challenge me but sometimes the stress gets to me.

All in all, I can't really complain.

I know people who have retired who have returned as consultants - who continue to work, even though they don't need to...

I'd have no problem leaving my job today if money was not an object. I'd write, I'd compose music, I'd perform, I'd read. I'd hang out here - I'd have a million things to do.

Of corse...

Well i guess my summer job will be fun...I just got an acceptience to intern at the coroner's office over the summer so i am kinda looking forward to it. It will be new and interesting. And i am also looking forward to being in Macbeth and romeo and juliet for shakesphere in the Summer(i forgot the actual title).but then it's back to school

Most days, yes I am. I like my career and the people I work with. It makes it easier to go to work in the morning.

Whenever someone starts the thread about career changes, what you would do if you could change now, I never have an answer. Because, after 23 years out of college, I'd pick the same career if I had to do it all over again. :)

My summer job isn't really complainable (new word) yet, but it's getting there.
I have fun sometimes, when things are going well, but there are days when a nervous breakdown seems inevitable.

(I think that the problem is that I don't really like the concept of 'work')
If working was posting at Lit. all day, every day; I would be a very happy woman. :D

Hope you find something rewarding in whatever you to do though. :rose:

You hit the head(pardon the pun) of the nail. I'm the same about the concept of "work". If I could I'd sit around naked posting on lit. Hummmm, I wonder if that is possible?:D

Do you find that what you do that you are a perfectionist?

I do. Sometimes it's a real bitch!

I can't say I love my job, but I do have amazing amounts of fun there. The people are good and we get along well. We rearaange work areas, hide stuff from each others cubes, lay pranks and have water fights... nice break fromt he day to day monotony.

Turn your work into play. That's how I have fun on my job. The job is still just a job, but it's the play that gets me through the day.
