Wow! You should see all the little red lines for my browser's spell check! Anyway, I can read it. I've received that email before too.

No problem reading it.

I assume the "very smart" thing is like a hypnotist telling the audience that only very smart people can be hypnotized.

Provides ego boost and a willingness to participate.

I had no problem reading it, but that was because of context more than anything else. If I were to see those garbled words lisrted at random, I would not know what they meant. And, of course,m the first letters and last letters being in place and the length of the words helps too.

And, of course, the fact that I have a strange mind.

I can read it. And, I want to say that I have received e-mails with even worse spelling, just in the course of normal business.

Yep, I could read it easily. I'm an editor; copy comes in not much better than this.

That's funny. You ought to send the story right back to wince it came.:)

I wonder who can't read it? It said only 45% can read it. I guess they are just pulling our leg or the aher's are super smart.

I think it's as accurate as "4 out of 5 Dentists"

The trick to editing is to retrain your brain to send up the alarm when there are things that are usually ignored...double words are also missed a lot because the brain just tosses one of them out and keeps going.

It would be better for an editor if they couldn't read it--that would mean they'd catch a lot more mistakes.

I have always felt sorry for my editors for the crap I send them. I go over and over it but miss an awful lot.

An editor I'm not, (not the best writer either) but I do have deep respect for those who can correct anothers story.
Thank you to all editors. I find that if a story has to many errors, I can't make it through it.
DG :)

I think the 45% part was made up. This is sort of like an optical illusion. Our brains fill in what we know is supposed to be there. Experimentally, most people are able to read things like this.

Such mistakes are innate in writing. Your mind knows what it meant and will read it as it meant--that's not necessary what your hand wrote. When editors send out their own work for editing, they come up as making the same sorts of errors.

Exactly. I suspect anyone that's literate can read it.
