Say if you have not made a post in two months and have under 40 posts then then the name should be deleted.

My author name has never made a single post. And that name's been registered longer than this one.

There are lots of people who don't post, but use this site for email, visiting chat rooms and posting stories... they have just as valid a reason for being registered as we do, they just do different things with their names.

Why? what would it do? Speed things up MUCH MORE? I doubt it. People leave all the time, to take breaks from this place. Some take extended vacations, and aren't able to get back here very often.

If there's something to gain for it, yes maybe, but I don't see many problems with this free site.

Lovetoread, re your av. In Multifarians, pixie has taken the missionary position - but that's for the far north - how would you like it for say Africa?

Yeah, why? Isn't it generally accepted that there is about a 10-1 ratio of readers to posters on most internet bulletin boards?
If people just want to read, and maybe make a comment once in a blue moon, so what?

Darlin, since I dont understand, could you explain this to me?

We've been through this idea before....

Please everyone, read this......

It isn't about the BB.
It isn't about it speeding things up.
It isn't about who has posted on the BB and who should stay active on the site.
It isn't about who is still here and who is taking a break.

What it is about is freeing up names that are taken by people who aren't here anymore and aren't coming back so that others may have ease in finding active members.

By this I mean, that it is about making it easier to scan the members list, and actually finding active members, not duds.

The reader to poster ratio has nothing to do with it because this isn't about the BB. It is about the entire website.

This can only be done one way and this has all been disscussed for Laurel and Manu's future consideration....

The only real way to handle this matter, valid as it is, is to send out....
Email notification to all members name's registered email adresses, with request for a reply required in a certain time frame to keep your membership activated. We're talking a month or two for time notice.

This is a process Laurel and Manu can't do on their own or by hand. I am sure it would require the installation of an program that could auto send the emails, time register them, and accept the replys as a means of varification.

This is done ALL of the time by initial membership set up programs for websites. It can be done. Laurel thought it was a good idea.

It is just about getting what is needed to do it.

And yes, the member list is full of people who will never be back. You can email them and they won't reply. It is annoying, and it is hard to scan the list and not get bored or discouraged, because every ten people are not even at Literotica anymore. (not just the BB. This is a portion of what there is here at lit to enjoy)

If this were implemented, those who take breaks should still be checking their email, and if not, then they'll have to re-register. No biggie.

It will make it much better to seek out other members via the lists, and it will give an accurate count on how many memebers this site really has.

This topic has come up several times in my tenure here. I believe Weird Harold has provided the best answer I've seen - perhaps he'll repeat it here.

But yes - you won't see a speed gain if that's what you're looking for and - as stated above, there are people here who have names that have never posted - more than one author in fact who has stories under a different name than the one that posts here (Weird Harold for one). Additionally there are authors who NEVER post on the boards - nor should they be required to if they don't want to.

The only thing you forgot in your explanation is that the BB and the site members list -- inclucing the authors list -- are the same database. Purging based on number of posts or whether the e-mail is being checked would also purge many stories from the site by eliminating the author's name from the database and destroying the information all of the stories are linked to.

This is exactly why I brought this up. I was scanning the members list looking for a name that I could not remember the exact spelling of.

I forgot about the authors who don't post so another method, like the email method, would need to be used.

Makes sense...I noticed a few times that many people registered and have neither posted on the board or submitted stories/poems/artwork/etc...their profiles were set up for basically no reason. Wasted space.
If you made a list, which is already on the site anyway, of everyone who has registered, then remove everyone who has posted a story/poem/artword/photo/etc, aside from the BB, then the writers (etc.) are accounted for. Then remove everyone who has posted within the last (whatever) number of days (weeks/months), then the current Board posters are accounted for. That's two large and important groups accounted for. Then take everyone with (yada-yada) many posts, or perhaps anyone with any posts at all who haven't posted recently and E-mail them, should their e-mail be specified, asking for a response in (cough-cough) period of time or their profile will be erased. Remove those who reply and wish to remain on Lit.
That covers everyone on break.
That should leave everyone who has been Nil in their activity on the site thus far (given that you don't need a profile to read the stoires/poem/BB or to view the photographs and artwork) on the list and no one else.
this list has become our "dispensible list."
Erase the profile of anyone whose profile was set up (so-many-months ago or longer) automatically. That should rid us over half of the profiles right there. Those remaining should be people who created their profile within (aforementioned-so-many-months) Time them. Give them (whatsoever many) days/weeks/months to become active before dumping their profiles as well.
All you have to do then is post a warning at on the home page that you've "purged unused profiles" and then a warning that profiles not used within (ahem-ahem) many days or that are inactive after so long a period of time will be erased so they know in advance...
Naturally, we could make exceptions for those who post a lot and anyone who's submitted work outside the BB.

whew! all that in one breath...am I good or what?
