Can too much sex be a bad thing?

I have been feeling creative lately and have written about 10 threads in the last couple days which is more than I've written the rest of the year. Anyway, I have been wanting to update my stories and am having a hard time with A College Girl To Be.... The story is all about sex, sex and more sex. It's like every thread is sex of some sort.

On the plus side, I've rediscovered my story A Lost Identity: Sex Fugitive It doesn't contain so much sex and I find is easier to write.

So here's my question... do you find it easier to write sex? or story? If you don't mind giving a reason, go ahead. I am curious what others think.

Story threads. Primarily because it offers a hell of a lot more variation (I've never been interested in Gay Male, and nowadays most BDSM and all Rape either bores or sickens me).

I find writing the story easier, if it's a story I've really got my teeth into I often have two or three threads in advance sketched out in my mind. Adding the sex and fleshing out a two or three line synopsis to make a decent length thread is what takes the time and effort for me.

I find the sex easier. Plotting out story line for me is an involved process that usually contains several bouts of dog walking (a nightly 10-15 minute task) while talking through plot ideas to myself and the dog (she's a good listener). Sex I can write on the fly with maybe two minutes of thought behind a scene.

Sometimes a single dog walk can get me an inspiration, similar to what I have planned for my thread in Prisoner of Tau-Ceti Two. You've only seen the very beginning of that thread. I'll be filling out the plot over the next six months to a year. Yeah, that many threads.

That doesn't happen often. The last time it happened was last summer, when I was planning out my RPG campaign story line: translate 'Lost' the TV show to a baroque, medieval Chinese empire-esque fantasy world (Tekumel), complete with mysterious technological underground bases, pirates, horrific monsters, and numerous other world-specific perils. The plot line will take at least a year to play out.

Now if I can just get a good inspiration like that for my novel that I'm planning out long-term.

I rely on sex threads too much, as I find them much easier to write. All it takes is one mental image or memory of a small event and I can build a scenario off of that. But with a story, I find it trickier to make it compelling and not just a prelude to banging - I don't want it to sound like a bad porno (even though that's what it is sometimes.)

What I've been trying to do most recently is mix them together, creating foreplay and erotic scenarios without sex, and moving the plot along during those threads.

Speaking for myself, I prefer to write story threads, rather than sex threads, only because by doing so its my hope that I'll entice a prospective writer to contribute to my story, or add to one of my threads with one of their own.

I don't dislike writing sex threads, in fact in certain circumstances, I belive I'm pretty good at it. I leave you to judge. Perhaps I'll have enticed a new writer or a valued vetern.

I tend to find story threads a little easier, though actual good plotting and good hook questions are often a challenge. I've noticed my characters are very chatty -- I try and have them show their personalities that way -- but sometimes I have trouble getting them firmly pointed in one direction or another.

Once I have a handle on the personalities, it's easier to figure out how they might react to being put on the spot: Well? Do ya wanna do it?

Sometimes I use the device of following one or two characters who happen upon others who are already having sex. I enjoy imagining that sort of scene, and it sometimes works for moving things along.

Torg: 'Lost' meets Empire of the Petal Throne? Wow!

I enjoy writing both (I finally wrote a thread 2 days ago after a 3 month hiatus) and it was storyline based. I chose sex threads because, as long as you don't rush it, and try to stay away from repeating terms too often, it’s hard to go wrong, when I'm writing an actual plot based thread it shows me that I'm just a hobby-ist, I think I'm ok, but that’s it, ok.

Also, while I love the sex based threads (Hell, they ARE the reason I found Chyoo one night!) sometimes they sound like THE END to me, I've lost count how many times I've been at the 'end' of a story, wanting to add another thread, but it seems un-necessary, the point of the story was to 'get the girl' and after 2 threads or 50 threads he now has her, so adding more is just fluffing it up, know what I mean?

In real life, you can wake up and boink her again! But who wants to read about that? For me Chyoo is more about the thrill of the chase and the first time you get to indulge in your fantasy, after that, it’s no longer fantasy.....so go write a new story :D

I find the morning-after thread to fun to write, and they can give you great lead-ins to story. How people react to one another after a night of debauchery is, I feel, important for the characters and story. One of my favorite sex the morning-after threads comes in The Choices We Make at the end of Give the party a miss. Read the whole thread, it's one of my best (IMNSHO). Thanks to the lead up by daciasdesire and Imhotep.

I find there are only so many ways to have sex. I always feel like I am repeating myself, or that my threads are just ripoffs of past threads. I have written a couple sex threads lately and they have been completely different and more hardcore than things I've written in the past. The new threads focus on Male Dominance rather than mutual enjoyment.

This is true in writing as well as in the sex act itself. Repetition is not going to make me stop doing either. Practice makes perfect, and if not it was fun along the way.

I prefer writing story threads for the most part. In all honesty, I like writing a character development thread or plot development thread and having someone else follow it up with a steamy (and well written) sex scene.

To be honest I think my sex scenes leave alot to be desired.
