I can just imagine warhawks in DC champing at the bit to finish off Iran while it's down.

OTOH, one thing Trump always seems to have told the truth about is his lack of interest in military adventures.

I hope we've learned a lesson from the Iraq occupation quagmire -- Iran is three times as large, and every bit as volatile,

longish article detailing condition of remaining axis members supporting iran here

worth reading down through it all as it gives a broader picture

Trump will want Israel to pay the US for getting involved.

Israeli official to 'Post': 'There was full and complete coordination with the Americans'

guess not

An Israeli official told the Post: "We presented the American administration with evidence of Iran's breakthrough toward a nuclear bomb. There was full and complete coordination with the Americans."

Iran's armed forces spokesperson accused Israel of carrying out attacks against Iran with US support.

This comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement, "Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region.

"President Trump and the administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel."

I will be very surprised if the US provides US forces to Israel. That would be the opposite of Trump’s consistent opposition to endless wars. Vance has the president’s ear and is even more opposed to intervention in foreign wars.

That said, Israel is an important US ally, one that Trump demonstrated strong loyalty to in his first term and continues to do so now. Congress mostly agrees. So I expect the US will supply intelligence, advisors, missile defense systems, weapons, logistical support, and humanitarian aid.

How much support is the bigger question. Aid to Israel will have to be balanced against our own inventories of weapons and ammunition, aid to Ukraine, and of course the ever present national debt problem.

Israel probably does not need American aid to get through this. Iran's only real advantage is in ground-troop strength, and they're too far away to use it.

Interpreting political speech is so slippery. You need to be a psychic or someone who writes psyops papers for the military to begin to read between the lines.

"This comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement, "Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region."

Interpretation:

Rubio said Israel took action, and the USA did not actively participate in those strikes, as either physically in the air or on the ground. [He did not say it was without US backing, planning, or knowledge. That has to be read between the lines based on later reports. If he added the last points, that would have been an outright diplomatic lie. Politicians do their best not to lie outright, rather to bend the truth into pretzels or Mobius strips, coming full circle.]

Days before the strike, Trump, in his usual zeal to spew out secrets, telegraphed to the Iranians that something big was going to happen if they didn't get on board. Someone must have had him on a tight lease not to call it out right and say we're going to bomb the hell out of you.

The statement is very clear, and of course the US was given advanced notification. Trump’s weekend at Camp David, getting families of diplomats out of US embassies in the region, the repeated warnings to Iran, the IAEA actions, and decades of Israeli military actions might have telegraphed to Iran that something was up.

Could they have stopped it even if warned?

Does Israel have the right to defend itself?
Does Palestine have the right to defend itself?
Does Iran have the right to defend itself?
Does Panama have the right to defend itself?
Does Denmark have the right to defend itself?

He's been telegraphing something big and bad for months, where have you been? It's no big fucking secret. You just can't help from keeping the word Trump out of your vernacular. We all understand you hate Trump.
