Can somebody please help me figure out how to put batteries in this thing?

I just bought a vibrating dildo from the literotica shop and I can't figure out the battery compartment. I had two AAs stuffed in there and it took me like 15-30 minutes to get them back out and it didn't work with them in there. It said it took AAs. Tried AAAs in case the shop was incorrect but they appear too small.

Before I break the thing, somebody please tell me how to put the batteries in, and in which direction! Like which side does the flat side go, which side does the knob go.

It is a Blush Novelties 9" multi speed realistic waterproof. Does it look like I need to return it because the compartment is built wrong? Is there a manual for it somewhere? It didn't come with one and Google was no help.

Were the poles on the batteries aligned properly?

They were both flat side up. As in, flat side facing the lid with the on/off thing.

Maybe I need to just put them in the opposite way? But I'm asking so I don't break a screwdriver and scratch up a couple of batteries and have to throw them away again. Don't want to risk it.

The one on the left (with the plus sign) needs to go in with the little point up.
