In the last 10 minutes, my story lost a vote and its score jumped up. I've heard of sweeps. Did one just happen ten minutes ago?

If they could HYPOXIA would be in trouble about now. No more 5s HYPOXIA.

The only people who know if one happened are the owners and they ain't tellin'.

Just know, they happen from time to time, more when a contest is about to end, and you will notice your score go up or down.

The sweep is not just about getting rid of low scores, but duplicates, which could be a 5, and those scores that may no fix the norm.

ETA: To answer your question: No reader cannot take back votes.

A voter can't take away a vote, I don't think. (Although if their account is canceled perhaps all of their story votes are too.) So, it probably happened in a sweep, which appear to happen to different stories at different time. The Web site isn't telling what it's formula for that is.

Readers can't take back votes.

Also even if an account is deleted I think the vote stays. I know comments do, but it will say deleted user or something to that effect, but it stays.

Most likely a sweep they supposedly happen once a week, but more frequently now as there is a contest going.

See, I knew I heard this somewhere before.

Its a feature LIT needs.

A: because my pointer occasionally wants to do its thing NOT mine.
B. because some of you are insufferable assholes

I had the same experience. I went to bed and my story had 172 votes; in the morning it had only 169. How is this possible?

Sweeps happen from time to time, and presumably remove duplicate or fraudulent votes on stories. Don't ask what the criteria is for a fraudulent vote; Laurel and Manu alone are in charge of this site, and whatever program they use to detect such things is known only to them.

Just accept that, from time to time and especially during the final days of any contest, the votes and vote totals of your stories will bounce up and down like a natural D-cup cheerleader's tits on a trampoline. ;)
