Of course they can! Sometimes attraction is there, but it needn't get in the way of great friendship - most of my best friends are women.

From my experience, if there's even a slight attraction, things will get nasty. Even two people who weren't initially attracted to each other will form an attraction over time.

Ah, the 'When Harry Met Sally...' questoin. It's entirely possible for men and women to just be friends. BUT, it can get very, very complicated if you've hooked-up, broken-up, and try to stay friends. Again, it can be done, but this added dynamic makes it a huge challenge.
