There have been many occasions when I see a lone thread for a writer seeking an editor. I hem and haw, think and consider, and after a time may offer to edit in the forum only to find out an editor offered an assist via PM a day or more ago.

Can an editor also alert other editors to "staking the claim" by also taking a few seconds to post a message in the thread? I do this out of courtesy to others and would appeciate the same.

Thanks to the many editors out there for what you do. And more thanks for your friendly assistance.

If an author has a choice of editors, all the better for him(her). If an author wants to used more than one editor on the same story that is her(his) choice. If I may coin a brand new aphorism "Two heads are better than one".

I don't think that the concept of a VE "staking a claim" is valid; an author can use as many editors and (s)he sees fit. I don't usually post on the thread when I offer to edit via PM for that reason.

Gratefully received.

I don't post in the thread when I offer my assistance either.
Seeing it may scare off other editors that the author may want. Like snooper said, they may want more than one.

I think it would be helpful if the author would comment to let editors know if they've already gotten the help they need though.

I hadn't thought of it from that angle before. Hence the saying "two heads are better than one" I suppose.

Okay, I can buy that.

I'll be quiet and go back to writing, which is my first passion anyway <smile>
