I guess the color that they're worried about is white, since whites represent 65% of Salt Lake City, and blacks only represent 4%. And we all know the vast majority of school shootings are committed by white kids. So those metal detectors are obviously bigoted against Caucasian psychopaths.

Guess I was a tad naive thinking that after Chobham was banhammered that the racist flex of attempting to pivot to "but...but...black on black crime!" would disappear from school safety threads.

Kind of a fail here. They need both metal detectors AND a gun-check at the entry point where you can check-in your gun on entry to the school and retrieve it on the way out. When I lived in South Africa, the offices my dad worked in had that setup, and so did a couple of clubs and bars I went to, Really sensible arrangement.
