I've been getting pains in my left Kidney.

They are sharp and very painful ... on a scale of one to ten they are about a 5 or 6, they happen when I breath in fast or deeply, and if it helps the weather here is cold.

Could anyone possibly suggest something for me to do, besides seeing the doctor, that's common sense but being 8:30 at night here it's not an option right now.

I've been drinking plenty of water throughout the day trying to flush whatever it may be out, but it just seems to be getting more painful.

Thanks for even reading this, but please if you can suggest something that I can do during the night I'd be very appreciative.

It's called an emergency room.

Kidney failure is NOT cool and you DO NOT get over it easy. Of course, that's worse case scenario. I'm not a doc.

If you don't go to the ER, call them.

I used to get the same sort of thing...

...it felt as though if I could only pierce my body with a pin or something it would dissapate the pain. And it always seemed to happen at night.

In the end someone advised me to fill a hot water bottle (as hot as I could stand it) and keep it hard against my body outside of my T-shirt or whatever. It worked. It gave me relief, the pain disappeared and I could sleep.

Never knew what the problem was because I never went to the doctor, even though I had a repeat performance on a number of occasions. Haven't had the pain for so long now I'd forgotten I ever had it until I read your post.

Try to get to the doc though...

Ummm Okay, I don't think it's that bad, but thanks anyway, and you gotta know if it gets too bad I'm covered so the Ambulance will be paying me a visit.

I let Gall stones go for three months and was in total pain, I'm not about to do that again.

I was going more for the "put a heat pack on your back for the night" sort of thing.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my Doc, I just need to get through the very cold night.

Thanks KM anyway, I appreciate it :)

Dang Nic, I just went thru this myself a few months ago...and get your ass to the doc. Especially if it gets to where you can't lie down. Of course, I just had a measly ol' kidney stone, but the pain...THE PAIN!!!!! Morpihne was good tho...reeeeeeeeallllllllllly good.

You guys do have ER there right? And I dont mean the show with Anthony Edwards......

Sorry I was reponding to KM.

Okay Kidney stones ... if it was I'd know, like I said I've had the Gall stones and I wouldn't wish them on my worse enemy.

Yes I am going to the Doc's, and I WILL try the heat bag thing.

Just wanna get through the night, I had a bad one with it last night.

Beebeeblue babe, you know I'd go to the ER should it get any worse, I'm just finding it a little hard to breath with it, it's just such a sharp pain. Plus I don't wanna be up all night going to the toilet with all the water I've drank (LOL).

I'm just wondering if it may have to do with the dramatic change in weather, and the fact that I've not exactly been dressing warmly to go with it.

Anyway thanks all for your help, I'll try the heat bag til my appointment tomorrow.

Go see a doctor as soon as possible. Even if you don't think it's that bad, it's better to be safe then sorry. Take it from someone that's been in a situation like that before. Hope things turn out for the best.

Thanks Renegade, but you gotta know I have the most beautiful little boy here and I'm not leaving him that easily (poor kid), I have an appointment and I plan to keep it.

I might give up for the night and go warm myself, and a heat bag up.

Thanks for caring everyone :) You're all wonderful.

You probably have a kidney infection.
Been there, Hate that!:( I feel for you if so.

Cranberry Juice will help a bit until you get to the doctor.
But contrary to heat, use should use ice. I realize that it isn't as soothing during the process, but ice releaves inflamation, resulting in less pain.

Also, this kind of pain can be associated with the intake of protien supplements such as Whey protien and Creatine.
Do you consume a lot of protien?

Where is Miss Nightengale when you need her?

Oh, yeah, Probably at the hospital.

Good luck Nicole! I hope you are feeling better soon.
