Can anyone explain to me how the number of "views" works?

Okay, "explain" makes it sound more complicated than it is, but I am trying to figure out if a "view" is per page, or per story. So if someone reads a 4-page story does that count as 1 "view" or 4?

Apologies if this is covered somewhere already. I checked other forums and didn't see anything related to my question.

Thanks for reading,

Good questions, but, no, I don't think an explanation has ever been given (by anyone who knows).

There's never been any official word, but as someone with stories ranging from 1 to 7 Lit pages long, I've never seen any evidence that the number of pages influences the view count.

Thank you both for taking the time to answer. Maybe someone who knows definitively will come along.

Darkniciad, how can you tell one way or another? If the views on a 4-page story increases by 100 from 1 day to the next how can you tell if that's 25 people, assuming they all read through the entire story, or 100 unique views regardless of how much of the story they read.

This is nothing more than curiosity on my part, I have 1 story with just over 10,000 views, after 8 months up, so it's not like I'm breaking any records here, I would just like to know how all of this works.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Just judging by stories in the same category of different page lengths, weighed by the vote, score, and comment responses. When I compare similar results on everything else, the views seem to match up within a reasonable margin of error, regardless of how long the story is.

It's not perfect, because there are so many factors like the day of the week the story posts and the position in the New list that can have an effect.

Not likely, if Darkniciad doesn't know. Only the website owners seem to know, and they aren't sharing that sort of information.

Ah. I see. Sorry, I don't follow the activity on the boards much so I didn't realize darkniciad was something of a resident expert. And I don't mean that sarcastically.

Okay, well, this sucks. It's a question I'd love to have answered. I am appreciative of anyone that takes the time to read something I've posted, but having a 9 page story that 10,000+ people have read is more exciting than having a 9 page story a little over 1100 people have read.

Oh well, so it goes.

Thanks again,
