Which one would you prefer to deal with? You might have to one day. These are the two contenders for the leadership of the UK Conservative Party and one day one of them will probably be Prime Minister...

Contender No. 1

Personal Details

Kenneth Clarke was born in l940. He was educated at Nottingham High School and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.

He is married, with two children.

He is a barrister-at-law, having been called to the Bar by Gray`s Inn in l963 and becoming QC in l980. He has practised on the Midland Circuit, based in Birmingham.

Contender No 2

Personal Details

Iain Duncan Smith was born in April 1954. He was educated at Dunchurch College of Management; the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst; the Universita di Perugia, Italy; and HMS Conway, Anglesey.

He is married with four children.

He was Publishing Director of Jane`s Information Group from 1989-92; Director of Bellwinch Plc from 1988-89; Director of GEC/Marconi from 1981-88; and a Scots Guard Officer between 1975 and 1981.

ken clarke is pretty funny for that reason i'd prefer to see him as the new conservative leader

however i dont think americans will have to deal with either of them :)

That's all you get Siren.

There was a third, Portillo, the "darling boy" of the hated Thatcher years and strongly recommended by all the pundits to take over the leadership.

He was knocked out in the first round...

You could hear the laughter from Lands End to John o' Groats...

:D

It's possible though.

If the winner is Duncan Smith, and he hangs on to the job, he'll be 57 in 10 years time...

Old Chubby Ken though will be more doubtful at 71, but just might make it...

:)

the second guy... looks less corrupted, but appearances can be deceiving. let me put them through a polygraph test, and i'll give you my opinion then.

Well it looks as though our Ken is going to walk it...

William Hague the resigning Conservative leader who has just led the party to their greatest defeat in history...

AND

Maggie ("that woman") Thatcher. The mad lady of UK politics who single handedly nearly put the UK back into the stone age...

have both endorsed Kenneth Clarke's rival for the job.

We'll know in a couple of weeks but with the endorsement of both of the party's "most hated" people, Iain Duncan Smith may as well pack up and go home now...

Who cares? The once great British Lion is now the left leg of the EU Ox. It's the price you pay for the pretty blue flag with the circle of stars. Does anyone in the UK care who the governor of California is?

Blair is young. Do you have term limits there?

Nobody cares. Not even over here. Just thought I'd try and improve people's perception of the world by showing that politics don't stop at the Atlantic Sea Wall! :D

There are no time limits. Blair is there for life unless:

a) He cocks up big time

b) Gets beaten in a General Election

c) Dies

I care who the Governor of California is. Anyone who was nicknamed "Gray" by his Mom has gotta be a real mover and shaker! :)

Who gives a shit about what you said. I am interested in their politics.

We have a stupid tory in office here. Worse than a tory. He's from Texas!

spoke to david dimbleby recently [what do you mean who?]
he said clarke is a hasbeen and duncan smith is a nobody
kenneth clarke wears brown suede shoes
and ian duncan smith is [i am led to believe] ex SAS dont let looks deceive you

(looks suspicious) What? I didn't do anything!!!

Though if anyone told me that they "felt for me" on account of the stooge in the White House, I would understand.

Either the man is clueless or just evil. I tend to think cluesless.

Copied from p_p_man's post:

I feel for you

That's English shorthand for "I feel sorry for you".

Not much of a 'shorthand' but us Brits like to talk a lot even when we're trying to cut the number of words down...

:)

The third option......

And as much chance of ever being Prime Minister as the other two.

Charles Kennedy MP
Leader of the Liberal Democrat Party
went to the University of Glasgow where he was elected President of the Union; won the British Observer Mace for university debating; and graduated with MA Joint Honours in Politics and Philosophy. He was then awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to attend Indiana University in the United States where he taught public speaking and carried out graduate research in speech communication, political rhetoric and British politics.

By Easter 1983, he was working towards a PhD at Indiana when the opportunity arose to be the Party candidate for the constituency of Ross, Cromarty & Skye.

I would add a pic, but that option seems to have vanished. :(

After the the General Election just gone (God was it only a few weeks ago?) Kennedy stands an excellent chance of carrying his Party forward even further.

Bright, intelligent, likeable, witty, sharp...he came across as a surprise to the electorate who had little idea of what he was like.

And being young, barring any disasters, he could easily become the leader of the Official Opposition, especially if Thatcher keeps confusing the Conservatives with her opinions and endorsements!

And he's even more left that Blair.....WoooWooo!!!
