Can a volunteer editor find out why a story was rejected?

I am a new volunteer editor. An author asked me to help her with a rejected story. Is there any way that I can find out the reason that was given for the story being rejected? The author doesn't seem to know what needs to be changed or improved.

Thanks!

Basically the answer to your question is no but yes.
No, the VE can't find out, but yes, the author can. If they click on the rejected in their profile they will get a reason message.
