However there's systematic bias that empowers conservative dumbshits. Basically rural areas have greater per-captia representation, especially in the Senate. My highly educated and left leaning state has the population of at least ten red states, yet we still only get two senators.

Even the house of representatives, which is supposed to be the most directly democratic branch, is still lop sided in favor of the illiberals.

This is one of the reasons why things that are actually popular, like Warren's addendums and conditions to the recent corporate bail outs, don't get passed.

Most are in less urban States, but there are enough of those to control things like the House and Senate some of the time. Trump was elected by those very people, in large part because not enough of the sane people in a couple of key States could bring themselves to vote for Hillary.
