It was Friday afternoon, around 2 PM, I had taken the weekend off from work, after a long long time and was relaxing in my bedroom watching TV.

Somewhere in another part of the house, my son Bret, 20 years and his best buddy Felix, also 20 years, were doing something. What, I did not know and did not want to!

The movie was just ending, a silly ol’ romantic movie. The kind of which I just loved!

Man meets woman, they break up, then they reunite. And they kiss at sunset!

Oh, if only life were so lovely and simple!

Bret said, “A card game would be a good idea for a bet.”

Felix ran his fingers through his corn rows, which was one of habits while thinking. “Yeah, I'm pretty good at poker.”

“Come on. Mom's in the living room watching Tv.”

When they reached the living room, Felix said, “Excuse me, Nikki, Bret and I had an idea. Our weekend is free and we are bored. We thought playing a game of poker with rewards for the winner and consequences for the loser would be fun.

“If you win, we will clean the house top to bottom while you get a day at the spa.

If we win, you come with us for a weekend camping experience.

“How do you like that idea, Nikki?”

“Sure, could be fun, in either case I risk spending three days at home, so why not.
But the thing is, I am not at all good at poker.” I say, smiling at them.

 

[DominationSoul]

Bret looked at Felix and smiled. They walked together to the table and sat down. Felix took a deck of cards from his pocket and said, “Nikki, you can cut the cards and I'll deal.”

I cut the cards, wondering what my son and his buddy were all smiles about!
“There you go.” I say, smiling at the two of them.

 

[DominationSoul]

Felix dealt five cards to each of them. He looked at his cards for a moment. “Nikki, how many cards do you wish to discard?”

I hadn’t the faintest notion of how to play, but I faked it,
“Errr, two??”

 

[DominationSoul]

Felix dealt Nikki two more cards and looked at Bret, who took three cards from his hand and set them aside. “Hit me with three.”

Felix dealt Bret three cards, then he took one from his hand. “Only need one here.” He dealt himself one.

“Okay, Nikki, show your cards.”

I throw down my cards,
A 5 of Spades, an Ace of Hearts and a King of Diamonds.
“Do I win?” I ask, feeling foolish.

“Uhhh . . .” Felix said, “you can also turn over the other two cards I dealt you, Nikki.”

“Bret, turn over your cards.”

Felix turned his over, revealing two pair.

“Ohhh…” I say, feeling real dumb.
I turn over my other cards.
A Jack of Hearts and a Queen of Diamonds.

 

[DominationSoul]

“Ok, I see Bret has a pair, and Nikki, sorry, but you lose. Bret, go and set up the camping reservations.”

When Bret was gone, Felix said, “Thank you, Nikki, for letting hang out all the time. This place is like a home away from home. I know – I raid the fridg a bit too much. . . .”

I smile at Felix,
“How can I refuse my son’s best buddy. Where is this camp by the way? I hope there is lake and some jungle to explore and swim.”

 

[DominationSoul]

“It's a couple hours north, near Amarillo, and yeah, there is a large lake, but no jungle; however there is swimming, water skiing, horse back riding, hiking, and a huge bonfire on Saturday night and fireworks Sunday night.”

 

[slutindianwife]

“Sounds good. I love the swimming, hiking and bonfire part!”

 

[DominationSoul]

“Yeah, it'll be a blast. I gotta run home real quick and get ready. Be back in a few.”

 

[slutindianwife]

“Ok, cool.”
As Felix leaves, I call out to my son,
“Son? Sonnnn??”

 

[DominationSoul]

Felix headed for Bret's room. “Hey, I'm off for my place – be back in a bit.”

Bret said, “Reservations are done. See you soon.”

Bret heard his mom calling and went to the living room. “Mom, reservations are done.”

“Oh, that was fast son. When are they for?”

 

[DominationSoul]

“We check in tonight at 7 and checkout time is 7 Sunday night. I think I better make a list of what to take with us. I don't want to forget something.”

“Ok, so when do we leave and how do we get there?”

 

[DominationSoul]

Bret laughed. “I am forgetful. We leave at 5 and Felix and I are taking our motorcycles. Felix wants you to ride with him.”

“Huhh?? Why is that??” I say, looking at Bret, wide eyed.

 

[DominationSoul]

“There are a lot of bike trails. Felix thinks it will be a lot of fun; also, he's not sure our clunker of a car – his words – not mine, would make it there and back.”

 

[slutindianwife]

“It’s not what I asked you. I asked, why does your buddy want me to ride with him when i can ride with you?”
