this may be a stupid question but i really need to know. I found out my little bro has been stealing the camera to tape mind numbing junk, when i find it the battery is in one place the camera hidden some where else. i put the battery back in to charge it to used today and i get the battery symbol but it's empty and it flashes. do i need to get another battery and kick my bro's ass? i checked it the battery is in right and the plug is in. please let me know before my older bro blames me.

Isn't the flashing battery symbol normal, indicating that the battery is in fact charging? Check your owners manual. Leave the camera pluged in for a couple hours and check battery condition again to see if it is partialy or fully charged. You can't hurt the camera if the battery is bad.

A tip I once heard for laptop batteries, I have tried it but without success. Put the battery in the freezer for 24 hours, take it out, while still frozen, recharge it...
(PS, the reason I hasn't worked for me is because the batteries I have tried it on have all been dead to start with. Batteries {Ni-Mh Nickel Metal Hydride, typical in laptops, cellphones and vid-cams} develop a "charge memory" specially if they are repeatedly charged before they are completely flat. )

Hope this helps and please let me know if it does. I was skeptical when I heard the "freezer charge method." Call me curious
Best of Luck

sniffle sniffle i grew some nerve and told my big brother about the battery, we are both pissed that the battery is dead and my lil bro is to blame, i was going to take that to the carnival today. but since my lil bro keep taking it out my room, my older brother is taking the camera sniffle sniffle. i'm string the boy by the toes before i leave tonight.

This might work but I wouldn't attempt it on anything but a battery that I had given up on.

Actually, most batteries do not developer "memories" - early nicads did, but I think the later ones don't. Some of the early cell phone batts did, but those that did usually had a way to discharge then refresh them.

Cold increases the internal resistance of a battery and its voltage will actually drop, especially if it is anything except a Lithium battery (I am not sure about Litium Ion batts, I am thinking of non-rechargeable Lithiums such as used in watches, and other gear to keep them going for a long time).
