AP) — With gas prices at record highs across the U.S., an increasing number of governors and state lawmakers are calling for the suspension of gas taxes to provide relief to motorists who are facing the prospect of even higher pump prices as the country cuts off Russian oil imports.

Proposals for a “gas tax holiday” to counter inflation had been moving slowly in Congress and state capitols before Russia invaded Ukraine, but they have gained momentum this week amid surging prices that averaged $4.25 a gallon on Wednesday, according to AAA.

Republican legislative leaders in Michigan and Pennsylvania announced proposals Wednesday to suspend or reduce state gas taxes. That came after the Republican governor of Georgia and Democratic governor of California both called for relief from state gas taxes Tuesday, when President Joe Biden ordered a ban on Russian oil imports.

Meanwhile, the Democratic governors of Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin sent a joint letter to congressional leaders urging them to support legislation suspending the federal government’s 18.4-cent-a-gallon gas tax through 2022.

President Biden Urges Return To Office

The statement has been met with pushback from citizens.

...they can go to the office and safely fill our great downtown cities again

“People working from home can feel safe to begin to return to the office.”

Gas prices going through the roof and this clown wants us to get back in our cars and dump hundreds of dollars per week in the tank, waste time commuting, waste money on crappy fast food, and everything else associated with needless commuting to a job that can be just as easily be done from home.

This idea is fucking stupid.

What do these dipshits think is going to happen on the day the tax is reimposed?

Get a better paying job, don’t drive so much, bike to work, take a bus, sell your 13 mpg truck and stfu about gas prices. Fucking tiresome. This isn’t at anyone here just a general stfu already. So many fixes to the problem but nobody wants that they just want to bitch.

No. The solution would have been to build that keystone pipeline in the first place.

Jesus you‘re a dumb ass. Let me explain. The pipeline is only a way to move the current production more efficiently from drill site to production ( processing) site. Saving a small percentage on the cost of moving it. The pipeline in no way whatsoever increases current production or exploration of oil.

so, repeat after me the pipeline in no way shape or form increases the production of crude oil. It’s not a drill it’s only a way to move the oil.

Jesus. You're fucking rude. I know what an oil drill is..

Over 800k barrels a day more going into oil refineries. I think it would have impacted prices.
Maybe, except the cost overruns on the initial phase one was 147% on the Canadian side and 92% on the american side. There a shit ton of lawsuits on both sides of the border because of this. You can look it up. It’s amazing how much litigation there is. So, even though we’d be getting more crude the savings would be negligible as the cost to build and ship is significantly higher than first expected.

The pipeline will DOUBLE the amount of available transportation of the crude to the refinery therefore DOUBLING the available product to be refined and put into the distribution system.

You act like it's an "either/or" situation when it's not.

The ultimate solution is to get rid of Biden and his commie administration of unqualified fools, all of whom would fit well into the incompetent bureaus of a newly formed Soviet Union.

I'm surprised Congress hasnt already passed a pause on gas taxes. I expect it will be the end of the month

The result will be that gas will go down 18 cents/gal for about a week then it will be right back where it was before the tax was removed. In 6 months the price per gal will be $2-$3 higher and the suspension of the gas tax will lapse. At which point the price per gal won't go back up by 18 cents, it'll go up by another $1. Immediately. Because the tax is a percentage of the sale price, not a flat rate.

See post two above, please Yes, increase in delivery should, theoretically, lower pricing. However, billions in cost overruns and court cases will make the savings negligible at best.

Once OPEC increases production, the supply will go up and prices will drop. Short term relief is all that is needed while oil companies cave to pressure.

Well now, if the greenies STOPPED playing games with legal challenges, we wouldn't HAVE those cost overruns now would we?

Lol. The Saudi's wouldn't even pick up the phone to answer Brandon's desperate phone call.

Why would they? They have already committed to continued reduction.
Apparently you don't know that the Saudi's are part of OPEC and OPEC isn't going to increase production to save Brandon's ass from his own stupid spitefulness.
